I would like to share with You with my first mass-battle army in years. An army I have always wanted to have (since first introduction to Chaos Dwarfs in 90’s in White Dwarf).
Kings of War Abyssal Dwarf army I am building will be done mostly with Mantic models (I like to keep the theme and support the company).
I am about to finish my first 1000 pts but I have more units ready to paint.
Really well painted. Cool bases as well. The rocket launcher base made me look twice. It’s different, but I can’t decide if I love it or not xD
Thumbnail army blogs is quite a bother to view, so I would strongly recommend that you make a free Photobucket user, which allows to post big pictures in the thread rather easily
Really like the gargoyles on the rods as I know what a pain they are to rank up properly.
Those Immortal Guards are excellent. I love the colour choice and the detailing on the jewels. I also like the positioning of them around the banner making them look like they are actually defending it.
The whole army looks very cohesive and the basing really brings them together.
Could I ask where is the banner from? Scratch-built?
Welcome. A very nice start. Your paint scheme looks great. The edging around the bottom of the IG shields really gives the unit a ‘pop’ that it needs. Nicely done.
The style of basing is also unique. An interesting combination of lava and more traditional stone and grass. Looks great!
Lava - I painted it flat and then painted with satin varnish to make it a bit more reflective.
The idea behind bases is picture of an army matching across the lands turning it into ashes and burning it to the ground (and to make it wit most gaming tables).
Loving those slave orcs! Really like the Slave Master holding the chains ( stood well back from the action).
Again, a really nice use of basing to make a diorama as well as a usable unit.
I hope that whip is well pinned/glued! I was going to use it on mine but the fact it’s metal put me off ( I have a habit of breaking stuff when it’s being moved in transit) so I ended up using a plastic one.
Wow!! I love how you have used the entire grouping of bases to tell the story, but without every base needing to be crowded with a model. It works incredibly well and looks far better in (my opinion) than a full unit of the same models would. Beautiful!
Wow really amazing! I never liked the mantic orcs but you really really pulled them off!
Those of you admiring the diorama style not familiar with kings of war that is a tournament legal base for a 20 man squad (Regiment). Meeting minimum model count to the man. Looks awesome also can save you a ton on minatures.
Thanks. I acculy did not do it because I wanted to save models (I still have 21 orcs left) but I wanted this irregular regiment to tell a story and to be less crowded.
And Yes. I tried to keep the minimum legal number of models too. (Will do the same with decimators. I find wierd 3 ranks shooting through heads of their friends in front lines
