[Archive] Mixing models - will it work?

Honeym123:

Hi guys,

In making my army, i am finding myself mixing alot of different type of models. Do you think it would look wierd, or will it work?

Im using FW IG as HW/S

Im using RA IG as GW

Im using 3. ed BB

And im using a mix in heroes from avatars, scibor and FW

Would do you think? Should I Go for an all RA, or do you think it would work ?

Honeym123:

Well im pretty certain that the FW IG, and the RA IG will work togethe fine, cause it seems like they have the same faces under the masks (Based on the heroes and the CG). So fluff wise, it would seem okay, since the bunker (FW) have more armour than the GW’s, and therefore have more armour on. The 3.ed BB however, im in a bit of a doubt about. I dont like the RA BB cause their masks look like the mantics, not detailed enough one might say. But I’m thinking it might be a cooler look if they are more alike.

The reason I care, is that I would like my army to be cool, and since I myself is in doubt, I would like to hear your point of view.

Kind regards

ThorAxe:

I think this one really depends on the paint job. the RA and FW chaos dwarfs look rather similar, so no issue there, but the 3rd ed BB do have a fairly distinct look to them. At the same time, I’ve only seen them painted up like most 3rd ed armies of the time, and the FW/RA models only as either battle damaged or dark and menacing.

I would suggest painting one of each if possible in a rough approximation of your color scheme and comparing them before making a final decision.

MadHatter:

I wouldnt do it, but I’m a puritanian collector…

Helblindi:

I’m not sure what RA is, but I think if you like the models, you should get them and mix them. Maybe oldschool citadel and FW are too different, but like Herby says, what matters is if you’re happy with it.

Yodrin:

I would say FW and RA models work very well, especially if you paint in the same scheme. That’s the route I am going for;)

Helblindi:

Thanks a lot!

Admiral:

I’d do it any day of the week, because I’m doing that kind of thing right now. :stuck_out_tongue:

What matters is if it works for you. A uniform colour scheme and background about different Guard regiments or whatnot is all you need.

In fact, I think any big hat army could do with a unit of Infernal Guards, because they are the Slayers of the Chaos Dwarf world. They’re supposed to look different, and it also stamps the mask/helmet headgear as a mark of shame, with the big hats as a sign of status. It’s topographical hierarchy.

Honeym123:

Thanks for all the answers, support and sugestion guys. I have choosen to go with forgeworld cannons, a mix of Forgeworld, scibor and Russian alternative heroes/lords. And then I choose to go with all Russian alternative models for the dwarf core - I fell for thoose guys - they seem like a modern dynamic version of the orignally chaos dwarfs. For my Bull centaurs I will be using Dragon ogre bodies and Iron gut bodies, for the hell cannon i am using the nurgle prince from FW. For my hobgoblins I choose to go with the night goblins from Skull pass, simply because I couldn’t bear the thought of converting 80 hobgoblins. I think I will be using the scibor bull for my prophet on taurus.

So that’s it guys. If anybody would like to follow along, I could make a blog?

Kind regards

Honeym

Admiral:

Sure thing, make a log for it! It sounds like a good mix.

I’m not sure if this would be of any help for you, but I and Bloodbeard have a Hobgobbo head project running (they have to get cast first), which should make for easy conversions if you chucked the heads on Plague Monk or Stormvermin bodies.

At least if you wanted Hobgobbos to look like something else than ordinary Goblins.

Besides, if you want a unit of masked Infernal Guards (fluffwise, all warriors count like IG ruleswise in LoA), then Titan Wargames would be cheaper than FW.

Admiral:

Besides, don’t miss Ravenswood’s Bezhukk miniature. It’s limited edition, and you will regret it if you don’t get one for your army.

Honeym123:

He looks nice, but the base size is too big. All the dwarfs are running around on a 20x20 - he has a 30 mm round base

Honeym123
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the model doesn't come with a base. I found it possible to base him on a 20mm base without much problem, though you might want to take care to make it rank up in the front rank with your units.

Honeym123:

Well I stand corrected

Abecedar:

I plan on putting “Bezhukk” on a palanquin or throne chair
