[Archive] monstrous Arcanum up for pre-order

Vogon:

For those that have the book, what is the creature on the front cover?  Presumably a dragon?

I really like the look of that, if it looks half as good as the art I'll buy it.  Looks amazingly similar to Deathwing from WoW and I was using that as the basis for my destroyer originally.

Grimstonefire
I think it's the Magma Dragon (possibly the emperor magma dragon) though it doesn't look much like the artwork inside the book or the work in progress model

I'll wait until the final model is released to be honest but the Magma Dragon background has them in the dark lands and has a story about one being captured and used for experiments by chaos dwarfs.

Cheers

Grimstonefire:

Shame, that model looks lame imo and the front cover is cool.

Another question, is the artwork for the Bale Taurus the same as in Tamurkhan?

MLP:

That looks just like a large Lizardman Salamander but with wings…

stephanavich:

I thought it was supposed to be a Shard Dragon considering it’s covered in spikes and stuff, but reading the rules it doesn’t seem to be able to breathe fire, and doesn’t have wings. So I guess it’s two different interpretations of “Magma Dragon”?

However, upon reading the book it is clear that there were supposed to be more monsters in this book than there actually are. The inside and back inside covers have a map, with labels “Djinn” (near Araby) and “Stone Scorpions” (SE of the Mountains of Mourn). The fluff reference “Snakemen of Khuresh” and “Shugon”. “Shugon” are essentially sea trolls; at Warhammer Forge Open Day, one of the artists (I have a sneaking suspicion it was Sam Lamont) was drawing what looked to be a blue river troll carrying an anchor (sorry, no picture available :frowning: )

Although, I now want to buy: a Dread Saurian (FREAKIN’ SPINOSAUR!), Peryton, Merwyrm/Pagowyrm/Sciowyrm, Mourngul and Dread Maw.

Thommy H:

Is the dragon on the cover not a Warpfire Dragon?

No the art work for the Bale Taurus is a new piece I'd not seen before. It's rather good IMO :)

Thommy H
No it's definitely not a warpfire dragon the artwork inside the book for the warpfire dragon is completely different and doesn't have the whole flaming/smoking wings thing going on
