Bassman:
Amazing! Nice touch the destroyed section. Is it removable? To show where the wall fall down because of siege machines?

wallacer:
Holy crap.
That is without doubt the most phenomenal castle i’ve ever seen on a gaming table.
You should post some info on how you made it.
G.2:
That is one big distraction. I wish I had distractions like that. - Great work on the Castle, it looks awesome.
Lord Archaon:
Amazing job!
I’ve always wanted to play a siege game, hope you get a lot of fun playing it. :cheers
warh:
looks awesome! love all the details
Unzul:
wow… fantastic… it’s all homemade??
Neil:
That’s absolutely fantastic. It would be great if you could post some information on just how you went about doing it.
vulcanologist:
Absolutely amazing! Any modelling tips would be greatly appreciated!
nagged:
wow cheers for the positive feedback guys.
the castle and walls are all made from hirst arts molds, basically single bricks 1" long each. i’m not that computer literate (on the hirst arts forum they’ve done sketchup files so people can do there own 3d models ) so the whole process for me was quite organic.
essentially castles are quite boring to look at lots of sheer granite faces, so the challenge was to find a compromise of something that looked good but was also attackable to make the game more intresting.
this was my second large project, i used my “previous” and set myself a goal of completing a section a week, each piece was about 10" long and is mounted on mdf. I tried to stick to a regime of 3 castings a daywhich probably took 15 mins each session , that stockpile gave enough bricks for adays building. hence the amount of wooden hoarding which gave my bricks a bit of a breather.
the keep is big enough to play a heroquest/d&d game in and sadly is largely redundent in the siege game but hey ho. there are some objectives and a second gatehousewhich help to add an extra dimension to the game.
there are ruined sections of wall which are the same size as the whole pieces. when a section is destroyed we just slide out the whole piece and replace with the ruined section.
the castle is made up from 5 of the hirst arts molds which was my main expense, the plaster cost £30 (just under 2 sacks) and was painted with kids paints black, white & brown £5 then just pva glue and some mdf. was offered cash for it on the day but turned it down. it took too much to do just to have one game on it!! am hoping the campaign weekends lives up to expectations, one of them is planned for the end of oct
Necrotique:
How much were you offered for it? I can imagine it clearing $1000s being bigger and more dynamic than GWs unpainted Realm of Battle boards.
:cheers
dncswlf:
Now that is a labor of love! Holy moly! Fantastic… yes, many more games for that castle!

Out of curiosity, where is your gaming club based? I checked your website, but couldn't seem to find anything about location.
Ishkur Cinderhat:
Wow really amazing. This must be the very best quality of scenery one can ever hope to play on. jaw drops
AGPO:
I’ll echo Wallacer - that’s the best castle I’ve ever seen on a gaming board, and I’ve played on the studio’s Minas Tirith and Middenheim boards.

@Thommy we’re down in deepest devon plymouth to be exact
(coming down for a game?)
@Necrotique no such luck, £250 on the day and an offer of £400 came in later, though compared to 8 fortresses from games workshop still doesn’t compare size wise, the curtain wall extends to almost 10 ft and the keep itself is on a 4ft X 2ft board,
each storey happily accomodates character models with most weapons.
the gatehouse is 5 1/2 storeys high
the highest room on the tallest tower is 6 storeys high almost 3 ft
