[Archive] Need Help Painting Skin

Trupie:

Hey guys.

I’m slowly piecing together my Chaos Dwarf colour scheme, with an emphasis on earthy tones and steely armour and I can’t figure out how to make the skin colour work.

This is the best picture I have of a test model.

I want to achieve a sort of middle-eastern skin tone to get that Babylonian look, but I just can’t find the colours to pull it off. So if you can help me with specific colours or anything else to add as a tertiary colour to the scheme I’d appreciate it.

The main colours there are right now are Orange/Reds, Browns, and bones. The bases are stone with green souls coming out of them.

Dînadan:

I find the easiest way to paint skin is to use a cream colour such as Denheb Stone (or whatever the equivalent is now) and give it a flesh wash (give it an extra wash or two to make it swarthier).

Trupie:

Yeah, that’s my usual tactic, but I wanted something a bit less…chalky and pale for want of a better turn of phrase.

Lord_Yepez:

Hello,

I just had a quick question, did those models come like that?

otherwise what bits did you use?

Use a heavier wash or wash it multiple times, it'll build up and darken. You could also try washing with a flesh wash first, then with a sepia wash and/or a brown wash to tweek the colour to something closer to a middle-eastern tone.
