Hi everyone! I just joined the forum and have just started to look into Chaos Dwarfs. I was ecstatic to find a forum dedicated to them! I’ve been playing WFB for three or four years now, switching from Dark Elves to Orcs and Goblins, and finally to Warriors of Chaos, but as great as they are, none of them quite did it for me. I’m a big fan of more obscure things, and the moment I found the big hat chaos dwarfs, I fell in love! Anyway, that’s just a little about me, I’ll get to the point. Now, I haven’t purchased any models, yet, but I’ve scouted some out on various websites, namely Lammasu, Earthshaker cannon, 10 Annihilators (Blunderbuss), 10 Big Hat warriors. Would this be a good starter lot for playing 8th edition? Also, as someone who enjoys playing Warriors of Chaos, but wants to branch out into all phases of WFB, what troop types would you suggest? I like a heavy hitting army, but magic is awesome and I’d like a shooting bolster. Also, are there any units that are not practical in 8th edition that would have been in prior editions? Any answers to any questions would be awesome!:cheers
As you can only ever deploy a lammasu with a sorcerer prophet which in turn means you need to play 2000pts or larger games I’d skip this for starting out an army.
10 Blunderbusses don’t make too much sense I’m afraid (10 fireglaives which can be represented by the same models are better).
For starting an army I’d say:
20ish warriors
character model on foot
+ whatever you like
All models from prior editions that still can be used are still quite nice in 8th.
The units I personally would not field in terms of efficiency are:
If you like the model then by all means get yourself a Lammassu and have fun painting it up but you?Tre not going to be using it below 2000pts.
For starting out Fireglaves and plain old Infernal Guard with hand weapon and shield are probably your best bet, together with a Daemonsmith to babysit whatever war machines you choose.
This will form a solid core for your army to build around I generally use a block of 20 HWS and to units of 10 Fireglaves.
If you did Orc and Goblins then I?Tm sure you have a good few goblin archers which you could count as hobgoblin archers boosting your core slots.
Having played quite a few games I love Bull Centaurs and plan expanding on my current unit of 3 once budget allows. They may not be able to dish out too much damage but with T5 and a 2+ save (with shield) they are incredibly resilient and are pretty good at holding up enemy units until help can arrive.

Thank you very much! At the moment I usually play around a 900-1000pt. battle with a friend at the local shop. He plays skaven, and will possibly switch over to empire. I will probably try to maximize my money by getting some more warriors with the money I would have used on Lammasu, but he's just such a cool model haha! Thanks again! :hat off

Thanks! Yeah, I've got about 60 goblins that I'll proxy as hobgoblins so you're correct on that front haha. I really appreciate the info on Bull Centaurs too. There's a few here and there online but they can be pretty expensive! Anyway, happy hunting!
