[Archive] New Nagash book and effects on playing against undead armies

Fuggit Khan:

:o Shocking... If he did that to my minis, I'd be serving life in prison...

Baggronor
Hahaha! A very good point...I can just see it now, sitting in a prison cell and being asked "What ya in for?" and me replying "Murder...b@stard stripped the paint off my Hobgoblins".
only half his teeth went flying?

Bloodbeard
Please tell me you gave him a curb stomp!?

Malorndk
Yep, pretty much along those lines...I told him he better go make some casts of his teeth too, because I did threaten to give him a curb job right there on the spot, using the edge of the gaming table as the curb.
Not one of my better days, I'm usually a pretty mellow guy, but stealing models and stripping paint off because you "don't like Ebay prices" is insane.
The b@stard could of at least returned the bases :mad
Anyways, he ran outta there pretty fast and I have never seen him again.

A kid anout 11 once picked up my converted METAL Hellcannon “he asked what’s this mister” I went white this model took me a month to convert and paint and just finished it. He didn’t drop it but he slammed it on the table and the wheels flew off around the table breaking the joints. It needed repairing and parts needed painting. My opponent cringed at the sight and i asked the the kid to leave the table, His big brother came up to me saying i upset him. I told him to back off and he did, I packed up and left and didn’t go back to that club.

Word of warning don’t join a club that plays card games, especially Yogioh

Problems like this are just the tip of the ice berg why I only play WFB on VTT. When GW started pushing that “if you don’t have enough of the right models no effect” I really felt like they wanted to turn WFB slowly into a pay-to-win game which felt ridiculous. I personally thank GW for going for a different approach in the the End Times book.

Feel free to hate me for not spending my free time building and painting models.

tenebre:

we always abide by… “if you dont have enough models, just use empty bases” rule  hehe unless you want to get the models…

Stuff like a thunderhawk for 40k my friend wanted but i told him (just use a generic flyer unless you really want to paint the thing)

its not a big deal with anyone i play to proxy especially in cases of summoning.

Isn't that the point of this hobby? ;)

Virtual Table Top.

I really don't see that "pay to win" or "needing the right models" things your talking about. I haven't seen those Empire magical chariot super weapons in action yet - as cannons are simply too good and mages do fine without. I haven't experienced firedrakes or gyrobombers either. And I still loose to those armies - so the old stuff works fine.

I wouldn't hate anybody (think you read it wrong Sticklander) for not wanting to paint of model. Free time should be spend on things that make you happy. I hate painting myself - time consuming and boring. But I like the result. I would never pay people to pay me an army, but I can understand people that do.

MadHatter:

Warhammer: Chaos Dwarfs is a multifaceted hobby, some things you enjoy more and some less. You still benefit in all ways practicing the hobby in all it’s areas. I’ve had a few ales, been discussing politics all day (hate it), I have a cold and I’m grump, here’s my rant:

  • There’s the modelling, collecting and painting (expressing individualism through customization). Looking at your army on display, seeing the development and hard work, money and time; your art. Boosts your self-confidence.

  • Math, tactics and strategy.

  • History (30 years, secrets forgotten, characters forgotten and events) and background that connects it even further into moviemaking, cooking (yep - me, Fuggit Khan w. wife and Herby), generic characters that’s grown and been named etc.

  • Roleplaying that even while being escapism forces players into different perspectives and thinking. That’s where knowledge becomes wisdom.

  • Gets one away from the digital and stay in the analog world.

  • Legal systems, yep, I have experience of both and claim that there are many similarities between standing in court and playing a game of warhammer as from these complex rules adapted to our specific situation; we come to an agreement together.

  • The social factor, especially here at CDO where I have made close friends from all over the world that I’ve never even met. Then ofcourse for those of us blessed with being part of a good gaming group; new friends, contacts, connections with individuals that you KNOW more or less partake and practice all of the above mentioned crafts and areas.

All these areas interconnect and developing one of them benefits the others. The attention to detail and getting comfortable with a long attention span betters your strategic game, no doubt. Real life networking improves your job and dating chances. This is also why Warhammer is so much better than MtG or other cardgames and why CDO is so much better than facebook and why Chaos Dwarfs are so much better than all the lesser races.

I would never play on a VTT.

Done.

Vote MadHatter for tyrant!

tjub:

I don’t really see the VTT problem either.

@Madhatter: Inspired by this shitty election of ours? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh no neither would I, I was replying to the spending time painting and building models aspect, less so the hating for not doing so.
But you and I are of the same mind. Although I am slow with hobbying, I wouldn't feel right having someone else paint my models.

Back on topic, I got a reply from GW concerning endtimes. I don’t understand how they can sell something and get away with not answering wether it’s a supplement or not.

Hello,

I’m considering getting into endtimes but I need to know if these are official new rules for the standard game or if endtimes is a supplement/expansion like storm of magic?

Any clarity would be great!

Thanks!

Hi Johan,

Many thanks you for your email. Please note that we do not answer any rules queries by email or phone, however, you can email your questions or suggestions for future FAQs & Errata’s to the email address below.

I hope that this is of help.

Kind regards

It could be routine procedure to point it towards FAQ or it could be that GW's plans aren't set in stone. Perhaps the End Times books' popularity will have to be evaluated before deciding whether to let them remain supplements or become the new edition?

True, true... well I wrote an irritated respons and demanded an answer :mask

Could be the case, then they'll just drop endtimes eventually. Because just like storm of magic and monstrous arcanum people won't get into it because it's not part of the standard game and it's to large an investment to just play around with... simple as that.

Doombeard:

It is just a supplement, so up to whoever is playing if they choose to use those rules. I think its more of a try this out if the big kits sell well then slowly make it a part of WFB 9th edition

I believe your right, I'm now 100% sure it's a supplement. It just irritates me that they can't be straight about it...

Doombeard:

I feel you… Their customer services has become all corporate. I remember when friendly mail order trolls used to help out with anything. They even did a stock check for me once. I won’t be shelling out the money for this one even though Undead are in my top 3 armies, but the Chaos one will be pretty tempting…

Admiral:

I’ve got no idea if this is a watermark or not, but for the record this is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard anything negative about GW’s customer service. Even when critique and complaints went high on Warseer, their customer service would always remain unscathed. Indeed, old veterans occassionally confessed a pang of nostalgia and old branch loyalty upon receiving particularly friendly or generous help from the customer service.

tenebre:

i will say that in the past month they were super nice when i called about models.

the simply dont do anything with rules is all. i mean there stil isnt even a faq for Lizardmen! let alone wood elves. they just dont spend time on Fantasy rules inquiries.

It says on the back of the book that it's a supplement I'm given to understand.
Then again so does every armybook.

The thing here to realise of course is that GW wants to sell it. If they go out and make a point of being a supplement they reduce sales and maybe kill it altogether.

I'd look to 40k for the "future", lots of variously released crap you are supposed to buy without asking too much about "official" or not. "Buy it and bring it" is the new plan.

In answer to this I've decided I'm not buying anything extra or ancillary and nothing until earliest 6-12 months after release. And more like 24 months now... cause apparently you can't even trust the main rules for more than that.
