As has been said the BfSP set is a very useful source. Xander has some amazing conversion videos on this site, and I highly recommend you check those out. It will also be a very cheap source of troops! Plus anything extra you can always trade off (mainly the spider riders and troll).
I'd also look at a couple conversions of Bull Centaurs or alternate lines (I'm a big fan of the Impact Miniatures line for their bull centaurs).
Green stuff will be your friend, you can get by without it... but it is hard.
Must haves in my opinion: 2 units Chaos Dwarf Warriors (hw/sh) (about 25 each) and 1-2 units of Blunderbuss (15-18 each). As those are mandatory for core choices.
Good choices are somewhat dependent on your playstle. I'm a fan of Death Rockets over Bolt Throwers (though I like a mix). Some people prefer the other. Some people like mobility and will take a couple units of Bull Centaurs forgoing the Earthshaker.
I recommend you proxy some battles to get a feel for the army while you work on your CD core choices.
Thank you for the input guys. I have seen the conversion videos and am pretty good with GS. I have used it in conversions for my Ogres. I do not see the point in paying for a Butcher when a bull with a GS gut works just as good and is CHEAPER!
I normally play against Dark Elves, Empire, Vampire Counts and Lizardmen.
I was going to make my CD out of the Dwarf box sets by using the same bodies, making the beards and using different heads. Has anyone done that yet, as I would like to see some pics of that work if possible.

just go to the conversions section of this website.. Not only have many people done exactly what you mention, but there are quite a few different styles..
I would get the BFSP set, convert the pieces into the “Recommended” army list (As in Thunderers become Blunderbusses) and then try it out from there. Once you play a few games, you’ll know exactly where your units are weak and where to expand your troops.
However, the “Core” units, those being the standard Warriors, Blunderbusses and Hobgoblins/Hobgoblin Wolf Riders are always a good place to start as these units will be the backbone to your army. Why?
Warriors provide the main “muscle” to the army and you can make 2 units out of the BFSP box by using the 12 “Axe and Shield” Warriors and converting the 8 “Miners” to Heavy Weapons. Usually, you’ll need 10+ Warriors for a unit, and the 8 miners aren’t nearly enough. I was given an additional 2 miners from a customer of mine (I own Monster Hobbies in High River, Alberta, Canada) and that solved my problem. Also look for them at your local GW if they provide a “Make and Paint” course using them. OR, you could just move 2 Shield and Axe Warriors to the Miner’s unit.
Blunderbusses are the next strongest core unit, if not THE most powerfull in Warhammer. -with exception of range.
These guys fire in a 12" square and get strength bonuses based on ranks. (who’s standing behind whom.) Also, the Blunderbuss can fire through cover. So if an enemy is standing behind a wall, they still get shredded by the Blunderbuss. In fact, the only cover from a Blunderbuss is behind a building or behind a moutain. Blunderbusses are also effective against Tomb Kings as they quickly cut down ranks of skeletons in large numbers so that the Leich Priest can’t resurrect them.
Hobgoblins are an effective and cheap unit. Unlike Goblins that need 20+ to make a unit, Hobgoblins only require 10+. With the BFSP, you get 60 Goblins which you can convert into Hobgoblins. That can give you either 3 units of 20 or 6 units of 10. Hobgoblins can also ride wolves which give them mobility and speed for attacks. You just have to replace the BFSP spiders with wolves. I used Chaos hounds for mine. (Picture comming soon)
You can also convert some Hobgoblins into Hobgoblin sneaky gits. these guys carry 2 knives and get 2 attacks each. Set this up against your friends. They won’t be expecting the double attacks.
Hope this helps out and welcome to Chaos Dwarfs Online! :hat off
You could try to find space for a BSB, maybe downgrading the expensive unit of black orcs: 6/8 of them close to CD infantry could work as well as a great block saving up a lots of points. BSB in a CD army it’s very important.
And Just another point
CD Warriors x21 (3 ranks of 7)
Hw/Sh
Blunderbuss
When you pay for a blunderbusses you also swap it for shield and you still have heavy armor
Thanks for the input. I was copy and pasting from the warriors and just wasn’t paying attention to the Sh part.
I will look through and see what I can skimp on. The only reason I had the large group of Black Orcs is because, well the CD can’t march if I am not mistaken so I need something out front to draw fire and maybe even hold combat for a turn.
Quick question. Slaves under the names. What are they? I see people have tons of them and suddenly I have 1. .....?
Lord_Nagash
The Slaves are for fun! :)
You get them from the staff if you write long texts or you post interesting pics! ;)
... and you can also get them from other members ... just for fun, or cause of a good/cool/nice answer or post! But you only can donate as much slave as you own not more ... :cheers
I see. That is cool. I just finished my first BFSP conversion and when I get some time on my hands I will take a picture of it and post it to get some comments.
