[Archive] New to WHFB and need some adive on combing Warriors of Chaos and the CD T:tToC list

Bunter:

Hey All,

I have been looking for an Army to start from scratch for WHFB, I have played 40k on and off for a long time but our group have decided to get involved in WHFB.

I was bought the Tamurchan book for xmas and really like the style and background of the CD and the models for the war machines and also the the bull centaurs and the Bale Taurus.

My first thoughts are to use them as support for a core army using the Warriors of Chaos book, basically using a bulk of infantry and knights from this list and war engines from the CD list.

Is this viable? Are there any mistakes I should avoid? Are there any tips I should be aware of before I start making my orders from Forge World and GW?

slightly vague post I know but I thought it worth asking before I put up x amount of cash to find out that i have made a stupid mistake or missed a good opportunity.

Thanks!

I believe you have to have a daemonsmith as a hero … I also believe they are all rare choices and cost a little more if you were to use them as support for a WoC army

Sorry you prob knew that already though

Using Chaos Dwarfs as auxilliaries for Warriors of Chaos is ever a clever idea. You’ve heard with your opponents so they’re okey with you doing this? Have you agreed to follow the greater horde of Chaos (or whatever it’s called in Tamurkhan) format for the alliance, or are they fine with you merely picking stuff from both army books as though they were the same.

If you don’t use the Chaos alliance rules from Tamurkhan, it’s probably good to take one CD hero and one CD core unit along with the Special and Rare warmachines. Not tactically, but thematically. It’d also follow the rules guideline for allies in 40k somewhat.

We are pretty casual about things and no one has a problem with me using CD list from the Tamurkahn. Using the allies rules from ala 40k will be done also, as it seems right.

I would like it to be thematically sound rather than super effective. So, taking 1 CD hero and 1 Core unit sounds like a good idea as a minmum to allow me to then what I can in warmachines with what points are left.

What do people think of the merits of Dragon Ogres vs Bull Centaurs?

For me it is the command option. BC are nasty in a pimped up unit with magic standard etc. Also from a fluff point of view the BC are awesome but I have never used DO so I may be biased.

The only thing I would say is, shop around before you go FW.

There are some really lovely looking alternatives that are cheaper and better cast.

Check the thread about spotting fake FW.

TBH atm I have only been looking at things from the perspective of how much I like the figures and how well they will look together and aesthetically. I really like the idea of a couple of core units of the forge world CD infantry, likely one of each type, a CD character and a Iron Daemon and a Magma Cannon. That seems like a reasonable size detatchment with a reasonable balance of character/troop/big guns that isn't trying to just cherry pick the good bits.

That I figure could work well with a largish Warriors of Chaos army and look cool on the field.

I have a lot of reading of the rules and the lists to do too see if it works in the game as well as I see it looking cool as a army build project.

Will take your advice though and look at what other suppliers you guys have used.

Thanks
