Thommy H:

Again, more complex than you might think: the Terrorgheist’s tongue is part of the neck piece, so you’d have to chop that off at least, and I don’t know how much of the Zombie Dragon’s head is made up by its neck. But in principle, that’s the only real difference, since they have the same legs and wings and stuff. It’s all in the pose really - one is bat-like, once is draconic.

ryanamandaanna:

draconic… nice word!

Thommy H:

It’s a real word! It means “resembling a dragon”. Obviously.

I'm glad I grabbed 2 boxes a few months back... yikes! $50 for 10 plastic models? Maybe I'll buy more FW stuff instead, it's cheaper.

Thommy H:

Phew, just played my first game with my Vampires and handed out a complete drubbing to my wife’s Wood Elves. I picked her army because she only plays Warhammer to indulge me and I tried to go anti-magic with a Branchwraith Wizard with Cluster of Radiants and a Level 4 Spellweaver with whatever staff it is that lets you re-roll failed dispels vs. my level 1 Vampire Lord with Dread Knight and Skabscrath and two Level 2 Necromancers with no items at all (I intentionally only used a couple of items or upgrades in each army because we just forget about them…).

She took Life on the Spellweaver and the Branchwraith has to take the Lore of Athel Loren but, honestly, I seriously underestimated how powerful the VC magic phase can be - my Zombies ended up with 50% more models than they started with and I saw half my Skeleton horde get chopped to pieces, then almost all stand right back up again next turn. After I managed to run down her Spellweaver and her Glade Guard unit with my Terrorgheist (she rolled low with her flee reaction) she really had no chance.

Kind of depressing, but it was fun to actually give one of my armies a run out on the battlefield for once…

ChungEssence:

haha, nice mini report.

Keep em coming.

I’m considering some of the new VC models myself… hmm

vulcanologist:

My son just got the new hexwraiths. Any tips for him for painting ethereal creatures?

Thommy H:

You can have a look in my VC showcase thread (see my sig) for how I did mine. I have a whole unit of spectral knights that pre-date the Hexwraiths!

Had my first game against the new Vc´s a few days ago. It´s so hard to get Points from them!A 20:0 can only be done when the opponent is completly clueless and doesn´t use the magic phase.

Zanthrax:

I took my wood elves against new VCs and did not find them that scary (bad pun).

My opponent had lots of zombies but did not use any of the big new nasties.

He hung his vamp and necromancer back so low leadership helped me take out his dudes on the flanks. Rematch tomorrow night.

Thommy H:

What difference would low Ld make to Undead? Until they start crumbling, it’s never used.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Only that and for swift-reforms.

vulcanologist:

Thanks Thommy!

Redirecting a charge?

Baggronor:

Redirecting a charge?
Yep, that's the other annoying one, they're all pretty unreliable at redirecting.

Varghulf charges -> target fails terror test -> Varghulf doesn't redirect into much juicier target behind and carries on after the chaff instead. Sigh.

Overall, I'm loving the new VCs, so many more options and everything seems viable. So many possible builds :)
