[Archive] New Warriors of Chaos Thread - Discussion of New Models, Army Book, Etc

wallacer:

The Knights would look a lot better with a paintjob that doesn’t emphasise every tiny detail on the figure.

The chosen warrior is great.  It reminds me of a Rackham sculpt for some reason.

Xander:

Wicked stuff.

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

cornixt:

The paint style of nearly all the models lately has made me think the models were much worse than they are.

Xander:

Ya, the painting schemes look so busy and messy.

Ghrask Dragh:

I don’t like the hounds at all, the previous hounds are much better!! (apart from the being metal of course) tbh the more I see these the less likely I am to collect them. The mounted Lord is amazing, will definetly be getting that regardless but the chosen, hounds and some of the characters have really missed the spot.

I also haven’t seen any new marauders on foot, any news from Games Day? I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, if they keep those ‘things’ they are using now I’m out!

Also…

I think they still look busy

clam:

Ohh! are those hounds? - thought the were new Wargs for LoTR

I love the new knights and those steeds  - but they look way to big on a 25x50mm base. Think, thats what’s why the look so busy. Much better models for individual mounted heroes I think.

And that mounted lord - WOW! - I’m going to have one of those - even if I don’t return to Chaos.

PS: Think the GD picture of him should be in here too - took the liberty to …

furrie:

I don’t like the helmet

Ghrask Dragh:

Hammer is awesome, I really like the horse too.

The knights I do like, the marauder horsemen seem to be my favorites so far, because they were the first I saw I think it’s been going a bit downhill.

They should still have some really cool stuff though… new Mounted Lord, new Marauder Horsemen, new Knights, giant kit, plastic spawn kit, metal sorcerers, current warrior plastics, hellcannon, Archaon and of the course the new Lord on Jugger :cheers

The arsenal of plastic is perfect, I think.

Here's my current break down.

Plastic Marauders: 8/10
Good boxed set. Great legs and torso, odd arm positions, but these can be converted. Great shields.

Plastic Chaos Warriors: 9/10
Great boxed set, great look. The body bits make conversions a bit more challenging.

Plastic Mounted Marauders: 10/10
Looks perfect. Sprue will hopefully be just as awesome.

Plastic Mounted Chaos Warriors: 8/10
Good boxed set. Great horses, busy models. These might need some modifications using bits from the Chaos Warrior boxed set.

Plastic Hounds: 7/10
Nothing special, rather simple. Converted Dire Wolves might look cool. I need to see the sprue of the hounds to see what can be done.

Plastic Spawn: 9/10
Excellent Kit. Tons of variety, excellent for conversions.

Plastic Daemon Prince: 9/10
Looks great. Can't wait to see the sprues.

I don't think you can argue much with the amount and quality of the Warrior of Chaos plastic kits.

I doubt I will buy any metals, as I find them far too over priced. The plastic models make excellent starting points for custom character conversions. I am not too keen on the Chosen, also.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

I totally agree with you on the chaos warriors, the plastic mounted marauders and the plastic chaos knights, Xander. I find the marauders on foot are a bit dated though… and they remind me of the plastic Catachans, not a highlight in the history of miniatures sculpting either.

I think the spawn is a great kit. The only thing missing IMO is an option to create a non-bipedal spawn, but other than that it’s phantastic. I’m going to have lots of these in my armies.

@Xander and Ishkur

You have seen the new Marauders on foot? Where?

Ishkur Cinderhat:

There are no new marauders on foot.

Which is precisely the problem IMO.

clam:

@Ishkur

Thought I had missed something here - thanks for clearing it out

wallacer:

Maybe they’ll do marauders as part of the second wave of releases along with Chariots and Tzeentch stuff.

Ghrask Dragh:

@Xander: Excellent round up, I agree with everything apart from the marauders on foot (but I’m biased 'cause I can’t stand them :D) I’m more on Ishkurs side that them and the Catachans are out of date. I was happy they didn’t redo the warriors as I think they are some really nice infranty models, I think you’ve convinced me, I may follow in your footsteps and go for a plastic army. Although you have missed the greatest plastic kit ever made… the giant  I love it!!

I hope they do get done in the second wave wallacer, they just won’t fit in with all the new stuff, they must be done at some point surely?

Anyone else notice that the angle of the neck on that horse is perfect for converting the model to a Bull Centaur?

Ghrask Dragh:

Nice spot slev, 5 plastic knights=5 awesome bull centaurs, might try this one.

I would have the upper torso more like an ogre than a dwarf, make them more like monsters, the dimensions just don’t work otherwise.

:cheers

Yes :D - and after I did that Elven steed test model convertion - I think I might give it a go. The only problem I see - is finding torso/armes/head big enough - but thats why god gave us green stuff - right?

Not god, games workshop. Like god, but more expensive.

There's just too much to buy. I'd like these knights for my Chaos army, and they would make good Bull Centaurs, but I have too much to finish already. :mad

There's no time!
