I wish I can say I’m sorry about your loss but if you look at my Username I’m sure you can understand my unsympathetic attitude…
Jokes apart, I thoroughly enjoy your reports, they are a lot of fun to read!!!

Thanks Skink.
The campaign has been a blast. I can’t believe this is the first time I came up against Lizzies, I’m sure I can turn the tables next time

Well here?Ts a thing.
It was the last round of the campaign last night and when I got there I was planning on using the same list as last week?Ts outing. However when I walked in Steve (a high elf player) called out ?oI challenge you!? and the store manager told me that for the last round he?Td decided to do away with all the percentage limits when choosing your army. So 1500pts of anything from your list (including special characters) no core required, so basically ?oHave at it!?
Unfortunately I forgot my camera so no pictures today, just wordsmithing.
I had a quick look at what I wanted to put in and had a chat with my opponent and we decided to up it to 1600 so I had
Drazhoath (because it would be rude not to)
My standard level 3 (toughness 6 :))
Iron Daemon
Magma Cannon
K?TDaai Destroyer
He went with
Teclis
Prince (Star Dragon, Star Lance, Dragon Armour, shield)
2 Lion Chariots
20 Swordmasters (Full Command)
The game was a Meeting Engagement on a 6?Tx4?T with a river bisecting the table into two 3?Tx4?T sections with a ford in the middle to allow for crossing.
I set up first and put the Destroyer as close to the ford as I could. The Iron Daemon between two sets of woods, my level 3 in the Zigurrat of blood in my deployment zone and Drazhoath was close to the K?TDaai. The Magma Cannon was in reserve.
His own deployment was Swordmasters and Teclis as far back as possible the lion chariots hiding behind some ruins and the Star Dragon in reserve.
He rolled a 6 and got the first turn.
Turn 1
Obviously no charges and remaining moves he brought the star dragon on behind Drazhoath and Iron Daemon the Swordmasters moved forwards and Teclis scurried along behind. The chariots held station waiting for a first move from me.
Magic and Teclis attempted to cast Spirit Leech on my K?TDaai but failed ending his phase.
My turn and I turned my Iron Daemon around to face the Star Dragon moved my K?TDaai forwards to be in reach of the Sword masters and tucked up behind the ruins. I moved Drazhoath to be in range for some spells and potentially a charge next turn. I moved the Magma Cannon on to threaten the chariots the they hung around much longer.
Casting and thanks to a low roll I only attempted Ash Storm with Drazhoath on the Star Dragon. One irresistible force later and the Dragon was prevented from charging next turn :) I survived the miscast intact but failed my T test losing a wound but increasing toughness.
Shooting and I rolled for the Iron Daemon and got a 10 on one of the artillery dice :) I rolled to hit and got 4. At this point I thought I was quids in, rolling for randomisation got me one on the prince and 3 on the dragon. I rolled to wound on the dragon first and got three threes. Damn it! I then rolled for the Prince and got a 1 :o Oh well at least it couldn?Tt charge me next turn.
Turn 2
He declares charge with both Lion Chariots on my K?TDaai, I didn?Tt think he?Td be able to through the ruins but he said that he could with a dangerous terrain test we hadn?Tt decided before the game that the ruins would be impassable or a building (which I thought would be self-evident) so I let it go. He passed his dangerous terrain tests with both chariots and charged in also passing their fear test.
No other movement.
Magic and he attempted Caress of Laniph on Drazhoath but I dispelled it and spirit leech on my K?TDaai once again causing one wound.
Combat and shockingly no wounds were done at all by either side (impact hits, auto flaming hits and normal attacks all struck out) so I lost by two as he?Td charged with 2 units.
On to my turn the K?TDaai passes its toughness test and I declare charge with Drazhoath on the Swordmasters who elect to flee. I charge the dragon with the Iron Daemon figuring it?Td be better to charge than be charged and some Strength 8 impact hits might do some damage.
Magic and I attempt to cast Ash Storm on Teclis but he uses his scroll of hoeth I then attempt Breath of Hatred on the K?TDaai but he dispels that with dice finally I go for Curse of Hashut on the Star Dragon from my Lvl3 which I cast sucessfully.
We then enter a bit of a debate (including roping in the store manager) over who takes the hit. The spell states a single enemy model even a character in a unit. Now a Dragon mounted prince is a single model so who?Ts toughness do you use? In the end we rolled for it and used the dragon?Ts toughness but it didn?Tt make any difference, I rolled a 3
Shooting the only things in line of sight for the magma cannon at the time were the chariots in combat with the K?TDaai and the Iron Daemon was in combat with the Star Dragon so it couldn?Tt shoot either.
Combat
The K?TDaai despite doing no wounds with the auto hit flaming attacks smashed one chariot apart, I take one wound in return from the other chariot, this breaks and flees and I give chase running it down and ending up one inch from the back of the unit of Swordmasters.
The Iron Daemon managed to get 5 impact hits doing 3 wounds to the dragon. The princes attacks did nothing and the dragon did one wound. So I won combat and he rolls 11 and flees off the board. That?Ts his general gone
Turn 3
His turn and he rallies his Swordmasters and turns them round to face the K?TDaai
Magic and I start to realise why Teclis is so expensive. Al though thankfully little damage was done the rate at which he casts spells irresistibly without miscasting is horrendous. First off he casts Caress of Laniph on Drazhoath. Following the rules just used for the Curse of Hashut and randomised who?Ts toughness to use even though they were both 6. In the end he only rolled a 4 so I was OK. Next up he cast spirit leech on the K?TDaai again causing another wound and finally he attempted Doom and Darkness at the 48? range on my Lvl3 but failed to cast.
I Declare Charge with the K?TDaai on the Swordmasters (who hold) and with Drazhoath on Teclis who legs it into a woods (a fungal forest) I turn the Iron Daemon around and start the long slog to where the action is, I move the lvl 3 out of the zigurrat and towards another building and the Magma Cannon to a better position as it still has nothing to shoot at.
Magic and I roll snake eyes for casting and no channels. He rolls and gets a channel and 3 dice from the moon staff. I attempt Ash Storm on the Swordmasters and even though I manage to cast it?Ts not surprising that it gets dispelled.
Combat and I only do one unsaved wound with the K?TDaai?Ts auto hits the Swordmasters then proceed to beat it into the ground as I fail a whole bunch of ward saves.
Turn 4
His start of turn and oh happy days, he fails his stupidity test for Teclis
He declares charge with the Swordmasters against Drazhoath but fails moving forward 4?
My go and I declare charge with Drazhoath against the Swordmasters who fail their terror test and flee. I run them down and end up next to the forest with Teclis in. I move my Iron Daemon to point it directly at the ford. And walk mt Lvl 3 into the building.
Magic and another low roll for casting dice and I attempt the boosted Burning Wrath from Drazhoath on Teclis but it?Ts dispelled
Turn 5
With only Teclis on the table he rolls for stupidity and passes. Oh dear. He doesn?Tt move him and throws all of his casting dice at Purple Sun casting it irresistibly and ignoring the miscast being the first (and only) one of the phase.
The template smacks straight into Drazhoath and both he and Cinderbreath fail their initiative tests and are removed from play.
My turn and I super charge the boiler in the iron daemon and get as far as the ford.
Magic and shooting there?Ts nothing in range and there?Ts no combat.
Turn 6
Teclis passes his stupidity test and moves out of the forest as far from the purple sun template as he can, also putting him in range to cast some more spells at what I have left.
Casting and he attempts doom and darkness on my iron daemon which fails to cast.
I measure and decide that Teclis is in range of my guns on the Iron Daemon without having to move.
I start with casting Hell Hammer but it’s an inch short after rolling the 3D6 I then cast Curse of Hashut on him and it get through but only causes one wound.
Then the guns open up and when the smoke clears Teclis is no more
And with that the game (and campaign for me) is over. A great game and what a fun way to end the campaign.
The guys on the next table were also having a blast using Storm of Magic rules (well the manager did say no limits on what you can choose) and there was much carnage going on I think the Ogres had it though.
So at the end of it all (after all sorts of randomly granted bonuses) I ended up with a total of 31 conquest points though Purge and Burn came in last place. It seems after a strong start by the end of the campaign there was only me playing for purge and burn. The others had drifted away back to one off 40K games.
The winners were Protect and Defend who to be fair had organised themselves brilliantly though none of them had taken the advantages from their conquest points. It seemed no one could be bothered to model them. The rule was if you don?Tt bring it yourself you can?Tt use it.
Hope you all enjoyed reading about this campaign as much as I enjoyed playing it. Hopefully it won?Tt be too long before the next WFB campaign but next up is the Hobbit.
Cheers
