Penal Regiment: -

Many years ago, possibly even before LoA, I had an idea about wanting to use some nice dwarf models I liked without actually converting them. Basically turning ?ogood? dwarfs to evil uses. But I needed a reason why these ?oHey they still look like vanilla dwarfs? were there

So I thought maybe a Penal regiment would be the way to go.

Fluff wise it goes like this ????.

This penal regiment is for those who have failed or disgraced themselves somehow.

IE they are obviously not quite Dawi Zharr somehow.

Their last chance to redeem themselves before becoming a sacrifice is to charge into battle and win back their honour. (And mostly to die trying)

Player must roll for a D6 separately for both the following tables and then allocate models for any positions.

These rolls are to establish a starting point for the unit for this game.

1st D6 1 ?" 2 Despondent = Leadership -1.

3 ?" 4 No Changes

5 ?" 6 Desperate / Reckless / Fearless = Must Charge if Able Rule / Frenzy

2nd D6 1 ?" 3 No effect.

4 - 5 Musician only

6 Musician & Champion

No special equipment or other upgrades allowed.

No Standard allowed.

Heavy Armour, Hand Weapon and Shield Only. Points as per army list

Cannot benefit from any Leadership bonuses unless 12" from General or BSB with clear LOS.

(They tend to never be placed that close to nobility anyway).

If they lose a battle and flee, their Leadership value then drops by -1

(This is accumulative for each and every time they flee)

If they manage to rally, the new leadership value remains the same and does not return to its original starting value.

Will lose ?oFrenzy? if ever caused to flee, but keep the ?oMust charge? rule.

Any ideas or changes?

TheHoodedMan:

A nice idea. Maybe they could be immune to psychology.

I think their masters would make sure that they have not too much or good equipment. So I would them only provide hand weapons.

You would also always have one eye on them. Maybe they get mad and turn against their torturers…

Bloodbeard:

I like the penal legion idea.

But why would it make them look “none chaos dwarf”?

Anyways.

I like the penal legion idea. Perhaps making them close to slave stats? But unbroken. Immune to Psychology, fearless would be good. Desperate dwarfs really wanting to get their honour back. That would be kind of like Slayers.

Alternatively the should be broken, broken in spirit, not able to ever get back into society. Simply seeking death - not really honor.

Obviously they'd be denied curling irons for their beards.

;P

Abecedar:

Not quite Dawi Zharr enough is just bit of a pun in my mind, like they are the margarine of evil, A little bit evil but not quite evil enough.
None Chaos Dwarf doesn’t quite fit what I’m trying to convey.

No torture involved for these guys just disgraced.   So turning on the “Masters” isn’t what I’m thinking

If I thought of Immune to Psychology back then I don’t remember it now.  I do remember trying to not put too many buffs or negatives into the mix.

As to equipment, no Chaos armour for them is enough of a downgrade.  Still puts them above hobgoblins and slaves but below Dawi Zharr.
Maybe add in that they lose the contempt rule.

and I was thinking of some type of prison clothing just for fun.

Abecedar:

Here is the only examples of prison clothes.

I think I will go with orange and white vertical stripes

Dînadan:

The arrow design might work best if you substitute the arrow for a suitible rune

Bloodbeard:

The LoA rune for worthless/ash spoil!

Herby did some cool looking Dalton Brothers (Lucky Luke) prison clothes for a Golden Hat.

That is a perfect idea. Why didn't I think of that. I'll have to track down that entry of Herby's to check it out.

TheHoodedMan:

Clothes for dwarven slaves? What a waste ;)…

Abecedar:

I have to give them clothes.  There is no way I’m even going to try and paint all those hairy legs (and the rest)
