Grimstonefire:
I would say aim for a thickness around 1.5mm, but it depends what size they are? If it’s a giant holding them they would need to be more like 4mm (or lots of layers stuck together).
If you do glue layers together to make weapons always use superglue, poly cement can break apart on sharp edges and leave it rough.
Kera foehunter:
would the 1.5 thickness allow for me to work runes in green stuff on the blade
i never did this so this is why im asking
Grimstonefire:
It depends how thin you can sculpt, and what you mean by ‘on’ the blade.
If you mean sculpting runes into the flat surface of the axe you should go thinner as you wil probably be sculpting onto both sides (maybe 0.75mm).
If you are sculpting runes ontop of the finished axe blade I would probably keep it at 1.5mm, but then I can sculpt quite thin. If you need a bit of depth perhaps start on a 0.75mm piece and sculpt the axe blade and runes at the same time.
If you are sculpting thin, change the greenstuff mix to have a bit more yellow, it sticks better.
Kera foehunter:
sorta like this, how it has the runes and yet it a diffrent part from the axe blade
i even go as far as using a skinner blade on the axe
Grimstonefire:
I would say 0.75mm, sculpt one side at a time and do the sharp part of the blade + all the details. Let it dry completely, do the other side. Then when it’s all dry carefully sharpen the edges with a needle file or very sharp craft knife.
