I don’t want to buy more single pose metal minis for my 2nd unit of hammerers, so I came up with another idea while looking at an old 6th edition dwarf (helmet is soo much cooler then current helmets, also the chainmail is much better defined than on the current plastics).
Here is the prototype:
And progress to date:
That leaves me with 9 guys.
Realising that I’ve limited myself to only 4 torso types, 2 of them from the Organ gun box I need to find some other way to fill out the unit, simply because even if I can get hold of that many of the torsos I want the unit is going to be a little samey.
I’ve limited myself to those torsos as I want to see a lot of the chest plate as it’s one of the units most defining features, also I want to stick to shorter beards to differentiate them from longbeards with great weapons (should I ever need to construct any).
So this is my current work in progress figure… and it may relegate my current champion model to standard bearer…
Nice work thus far. I personally do like the direction you are taking the models. But as for the torso’s you can easily repeat the chest designs with reverse printing from one of the master chests you have sculpted. The reverse could be also made out of harder milliput too, just ensure that you have applied a great deal of Vaseline or release agent like talcum powder to the chest piece before you get the negative. Not to mention the kudos you would get seeing a all female dwarf regiment on the table too
I like it, good idea. I wanted to do something like this a long time ago but never got around to it. I first got the idea from a unit in a white dwarf magazine. I believe he used the 6th ed dwarfs entirely. Ill put a link to the pics if I find the mag.
I collect bits for projects years in advance of when I actually get around to using them, I like to know that if I like the way a project is going I could finish it using all the same parts, in this lasses case though being the unit “gatekeeper” I figured the keys were fitting, and the sword is there as the official hammerer gatekeeper also has a sword :).
Cool! I love the keys on her belt. In Norse mythology, and custom, women carried the keys to the house while the men were off warring and such. That makes her even more badass - she runs the house, AND goes off warring with the men!

Really? Interesting to know......
and she looks like my girlfriend when I come back home late after a night drinking with my friends :D :D
Not as “cool” a looking female here, but not every model can be posed like a champion, else there would be no unit, just a whole load of champions… and as much as i’d love to be able to do that, I only have so many pointing arms lol.

I have a friend who has a unit solely of Dwarf Hammerer Champions(*). GW sent ~20 Dwarf command blisters to the store (waaay more than the store could ever sell) and well I guess wrote most off them or something. The champions he could use but not sure what he eventually did with the standards and musicians.
(*)16 strong I think, this was early 6th ed.
With too many pointing arms though they'd look like they are doing a dance number. :D
