I thought I would share a few pictuures of the little short angry people that are taking over my painting table! Comments and criticisms welcomed, but I should say I am a total novice at green stuff-fu, and my photography skills are equally poor - hope that this stuffdoesn’t scare any pets!
At the moment the idea is a small force using the standard dwarf list - I do have the Ravening Hordes list and I think I will try both out over time. So, without further ado here is a picture of the Hero - a Great Weapon and a “Daemon Sentry” (Oath Stone)
And to follow up here are some more - the first is a set of warriors without their shields
and their command group with a slightly converted banner (just some flames)
Also, so converted blunderbusses - I love the work people here have done with the dwarf thunderer’s and the bucklers - so I decided to do the same
Finally, here is an attempt at a rocket launcher - I liked the idea of using something a bit like a 40k Titan Pissile pod, but my conversions skills are too poor - here is the attempt and the crew
I have also tried to convert a female Engineer to go with them, but I think she must be camera shy! No matter how many times I took a picture I could NOT get a decent shot… but here is the best of the batch.
Although you can’t see it here, there are some dreadlocks as hair, and I used a wood elf face with a small mask on her brow like it is pushed up - maybe when she is painted she will be willing to take part in the photo-shoot!
Anyway, maybe if I ever get these painted I can put some more photo’s up. As you can see, I was taken with the idea of masks on a lot of the warriors, but the blunderbusses were built before I decided on that - I daredn’t try and add masks now, so they will have to go without. I am thinking I will work on them some more though and add some eye lenses if I find something suitable to use.
I am also looking for some ideas of colour schemes. I am tempted to go with a dark blue sheen on the armour and beards, and contrast this with a firey orange for the cloth - but I don’t know if it will clash. Also, although it is hard to see the hero has studded armour - I plan to paint each stud as a gem, so I need to think about that…
Cheers! :cheers Everyone take care, and let me know if you have any thoughts for improvements! :hat off
Thanks Warh - I am definately on a step learning curve with the green stuff, I will try that on my next unit and leave the beards longer - the next ones are going to be some older veterans, so they need nice full beards
Just had a look at your army blog - you have some really cool stuff there! Strangely, I think I like the Hobbo’s best, even with all the cool dwarfs - they just look terribly sneaky!
The sculpting on those masks looks pretty good, like warh let the gs cure a bit before you do too much with it, it makes it less tacky and slightly more firm. I look forward to seeing some painted.
im really liking the masks. your greenstuff work looks really good. if i have anything negative to say it is that maybes the blunderbusses look too much like regular dwarves still, although im sure they wont once they are all painted and match.
same about the camera trouble for the female engineer i was looking forward to that pic
Thanks to everyone for the kind encouragement and the advice - it’s stuff like that that keeps me going
Ingrown - I will see about putting pictures up once painted, but I am stuck for a colour scheme. A thought struck me as I flicked through my copy of the Necron codex, to go with a mix of ceramic armour for the masks, and more traditional gems and metals for the armour - but I am worried it will look a bit wierd!
The worst bit is it got me thinking about theming the army around a slightly less “True Chaos” and more of a Lovecraftian style if that makes sense - inhuman tentacled “Daemons” fused into machines rather than the humanoids of the four powers. >goes to find the book of Lovecraft stories he borrowed from the library<
Warh - Yup, the veterans will be next, but I decided I better paint this first set before I plunge into the next unit - that way I can actually play a game or two first You must be psychic mate, because the things you described were very much what I had in mind!
GRNDL - thanks, I am glad other people like them - it was the inspiration from this site and the people here that helped get this started - Oh yes, and I have just been on two weeks holiday, so I had plenty of time to get stuck in. Back to work tomorrow >sigh< but hopefully I can keep it up.
Torn - you know, I feel the same way - I have just undercoated them, and they look too much like normal dwarves. I think I will see about altering their helmets a bit, perhaps do some sloped back ridges to change their shape -I’ll see what I can come up with
Finally, here is an attempt at a rocket launcher - I liked the idea of using something a bit like a 40k Titan Pissile pod, but my conversions skills are too poor - here is the attempt and the crew
Cheers! :cheers Everyone take care, and let me know if you have any thoughts for improvements! :hat off
RoguePanda
Cool you Death Rocket, I like to see the result this model when you finish. :hat off
The only other shot I have is this one but hope it is Ok. I have decided that both the blunderbusses and the Rocket Launcher need a bit more work before I am happy, so if I do anything major with them I will add some more pics.
If I end up happy with the rocket laucher, I might make another, but this time with some of the rockets in mid launch - it might be do-able with enough green stuff
Looking good RoguePanda you have got some good GS skills the masks look great and i am loving your death rocket keep it coming am looking forward to seeing some painted
Thanks guys - it is amazing what you can build with some golf tee’s, the end of a deoderant roll on, some broken curtain tags, an old cabinet wheel and a tube of superglue isn’t it
I wish I was joking - that &^&()) launcher took me several goes to get right, and has all of those parts I just mentioned - and not a lot else Still, at least it was pretty unusual
>chuckles< thanks everyone. Sorry Borador, but I haven’t modelled any more stuff yet. I decided I would paint this first 500 points or so first… and at the moment I am struggling to find a colour scheme I like.
I don’t have a picture of it right now, but one of my test models came out looking like an Oompa Looma - it was bright orange! :~
