Kera foehunter:

I wanted to go be on the shinney armor

and want to try Red armor ! But i don’t know how to high light red

Does anyone has pic…

DAGabriel:

I would go for a method like mine, only difference would be to start with a dark red instead of the purple i used, perhaps wash black, repaint the dark red and highlight with blood red and orange. I went as far as doing a tiny accent of yellow to get a lava like effect. Have a look at the upcoming round of the BSL for some LoA minis in my scheme.

Thommy H:

Red is one of the most difficult colours to highlight. Like with painting white though, the real secret is to highlight up to the base colour. So start with dark red (remember that you make red darker by adding blue rather than black - so you can start with purple for a really rich colour if you like) and then work your way up to the red you were trying to paint the area in the first place. You can be quite rough with the transitions because red is pretty forgiving in that sense. If you want, a very sparing highlight of orange will make it pop a bit more.

Some of my reds done using this technique:

...Really? I actually always tought that red is one of the easiest colors to paint & highlight (damn I hate green)!
I use the same method that Thommy H explained just one more tip:
don't mix white to your color or you will end with a pink surface (in the past I had a couple of pink Kroxigors that suited me in tribunal). Rather use orange, working your way up from Red Gore (dunno the new names ) to Blazing Orange. Don't add yellow to the mix as in the end your armor is gonna look orange rather than red. And remember, a thin pure line of the highlight color should be visible on the extreme edges. That gives a more dramatic finish to your models ...Aaaand check my blog for pics:)

That Overlord's cloak is amazing by the way!

Oh I see, my red is actually apple red (which stangely makes me thinking to snowhite and the seven Chaos Dwarfs:)). For reddish leather mix red and brown. Seriously, first time somebody told me I tought they were kidding me but it works!!! Mix Red Gore and Leather Brown and add both Blazing Orange & Bleached Bone for highlights! Results are stunning! Terracotta works fine as well.

eudaimon:

I’ve got a guide as to how I do my red armour in my army blog, accessed from my sig.

It is a more bright and vibrant orange finish, but can be browned down if you change the base colour.

rpitts2004:

If yyou want an easy way to do red armor, just paint it silver then use the red gw glaze, presto!

G.2:

Another technique is to use lots of red and brown ink washes. This will add some shine to the armour. I wouldn’t use this technique on cloth.

Thorne:

I swear by the old school flesh wash that gw used to do. Now supplied and still made by coat d arms. Smells very chemically and pretty useless on flesh but using it neat on red armour and it leaves a glorious if glossy luster to red armour simply by using it heavily straight on a good red base coat. Coat d arms it rocks.
