[Archive] removing greenstuff

astragoth:

as the title says, i want to know if there is a way to remove greenstuff? i got a few unpainted chaosdwarfs that i would want to remove the gs on.

Grimstonefire:

There is a very simply way, you prise it off with a hobby knife.  Just keep flicking away at the edges and it will come off in bits.  Don’t press too hard though or you will cut what is underneath.

Baggronor:

Yup, it should come away with a bit of leverage leaving the model below unharmed. This is also a good thing to bear in mind if you make a mistake while sculpting, sometimes its better to let it dry and prize it off afterwards rather than pull it away when its still wet and risk leaving GS in recesses.

snowblizz:

If you want to get rid of it you can soak a metal model in warm water. Or just water really. I’ve found it to soften the greenstuff, to my detriment when I’ve been stripping models.

Thorne:

pop the troublesome model and its greenstuff additions into the freezer overnight and then with minimum force the greenstuff should just pop off with no trouble and no exceptional force, Found this nice little trick out when I was learning what greenstuff would and wont do

astragoth:

thank you evryone if you have more methods please post them too.

GRNDL:

Some people suggest Simple Green to soften the putty, but there’s nothing safe and hobby-useful that will take care of it. The type of things that can dissolve green stuff are highly corrosive to the extent that they’ll eat through things like plastic windshields and metals, so wouldn’t be useful for minis at all.

Well I soaked some old minis in a Simple Green like substance. A natural pinebased general cleaning agent. It made all the greenstuff like rubber and it basically fell of the minis. I had another mini I stripped with a layer of greenstuff making cobblestones and that became partly damaged but after drying it seems to be fairly hard again. And I didn't use a very powerful concentration. Which is why I think the soaking as much as the cleaner took the greenstuff off.

The Snowman:

I have found that soaking it in methylated spirits makes the green stuff soften as well… it’s also cheap.

i also use this method and find out it the best way
put it next to the ice cream and then you can have a nice treat when removing the green stuff
***** note green stuff is not to be eaten **
please don't get chocolate mint ice cream ! green stuff will be hard to find if drop in to the 1/2 gallon container
