[Archive] Return to Hero Hammer

Miasma:

Introduction: So since August 2015 I decided to take a break from the Hobby and have been having a great time playing and exploring other gaming systems such as Malifaux, Necromunda and Blood Bowl. While I love these games as do many of the players at my LGC we all seem to be missing large scale battles, now Warhammer 40K is not that appealing to me and although I have given Age of Sigmar a fair few attempts it is not the game that I am looking for currently although with the ?onew add ons/rule packs? I may be tempted to try again but currently I am looking into getting in some games of Hero Hammer (Warhammer 5th Edition to be precise).

I aim to document my progress in this thread as I collect, build and paint my 5th Edition force (my favourite gaming system for Warhammer), ultimately this is going to be expensive as I do want to slowly accumulate as much of the original miniature range from the early 90?Ts as possible.

I also have a few outstanding miniatures that I need to complete the below army list which I will be searching for on EBay and trades/purchases with other members of this community. But for now the below is my list as it currently stands.

I have also been thinking about how to paint this army, I am torn between painting the army in the style of the edition which is fairly cartoon-y with lots of bright colours or whether I want to go a more modern route with lots of dark colours as befits an army that holds the Father of Darkness in such high regard.

In the coming weeks I should have a complete set of Warhammer Battle Magic (along with copies of the Chaos Dwarf Spells photocopied onto cardboard) as well as a couple of other items that I need to complete the below units (musician, standard bearers etc). However I am roughly 500 points short of my 3000 Point target (not accounting for Magic Items) which I think will be enough to include the Magic Items that I have listed in the list below, if more points are required I can reduce the unit sizes for some of the units (Double Handed Weapon Warriors or Blunderbuss unit down to 18) or drop the Chaos Dwarf Battle Standard Bearer to fit in the points to make the Characters super Killy (as is the style of the edition ?" it?Ts not Hero Hammer for nothing)

Purchase List

? Sorcerer Lord on Lammasu

? Chaos Dwarf Battle Standard

? Chaos Dwarf Musician

? Chaos Dwarf Standard Bearer

? Chaos Dwarf Blunderbuss x2

? Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaur x2

? Warhammer Battle Magic (EBay Bid Submitted)

The idea of this Army is not to build a super competitive list but rather have a large game of Warhammer from one of my favourite editions and have a lot of fun (and Beers) while playing, I also want to improve my brush skills, green stuff skills (repairs to make, banners and flags to make/repair)

Warhammer 5th Edition Army List ?" 2469**/3000 Points

I intend to paint up two different colour schemes for Test miniatures, one as a replica of the 'Eavy Metal scheme that was in the old 1994 Chaos Dwarf Supplement and one of more of a Modern style with Flamer Blackened Armour and Weapons with little splashes of colour to tie the army together.

Here is the current state of the models (mixed in with favourite units from my OnG army)

BABIS:

good start for this big hats army!

Hey Miasma

I have never played 5th ed. with CD so I can’t give you any ingame advice except that some of the magic items are extremely good (Hydra Sword: Every hit = D6 hit) if my memory serves me right. I now someone on this forum plays 5th ed. primarilly, but I can’t remember who. Fuggit maybe?

I am however in possesion of a classic painted bighat army (See my signature) and I will of course tell you that bright, cartoony colors is something you need in your life. Ever played a game, where your miniature become a brown/black/greyish mob, with some metals on them, due to distance and poor lightning? I hate that. When I’m painting I try to make everything pop, so it is cool even at a distance in mediocre lighting. I haven’t looked back once.

Thank you very much, I have had this collection (in some state or another) for about 2 years now hidden in amongst other armies and abandoned projects, now is the time for a clear out and a reboot of the glory days (for me at least)

Thank you, the collection is ever expanding

Your's is one of a couple of Plogs that I have book marked as potential inspiration sources for the classic style that and the work that you have done on the Banners (which even now are coming off of work's printer)

Jackswift:

A great start. Will be keeping an eye on this one. I’ve never tried 5th ed, but would be interested to try it if I could ever find someone to play against. Cheers!

Fuggit Khan:

I know someone on this forum plays 5th ed. primarily, but I can't remember who. Fuggit maybe?

Malorndk
Yep, it's me :h
5th edition is my choice for WFB. I love using swarms, flying high, challenges and allies. IMHO it's still the funnest version of WFB. Give the 'Black Gem of Gnar' to a goblin boss, and have fun with him in your front rank ;)

Seconded :cheers
It's kinda like shopping for a new car on the car lot...nobody cares about the drab grey cars lined up in long rows. We all instantly see the shiny red car, and want it ;)

Have fun with 5th edition Miasma, I'll keep on eye open for your future posts :cheers

Admiral:

Best of luck, Miasma. Fly high! If you don’t have any particular favourite colours in mind, then bright colours are always a safe bet, especially for 5th edition armies. 18th century uniforms stand out like few others, and Roman Legionnaires depicted in red tunics (or other bright colours) are much more memorable than those in earthy tones for clothes. Plus, colour show prestige and status, so any Dawi Zharr should be willing to flaunt his wealth and power visavi the lowly slave masses in grey and brown.

Abecedar:

And you’ve already included their first slaves

Wait what? Allies? Oh yeah forgot about that, might have to have a small Night Goblin "Slave" Tribe with Fanatics, Herders, Netters (got some Clubbers around Somewhere) and Squig Hoppers. A riot of Colour

Well my Night Goblins are painted in dull browns anyway so this works out nicely, I think I'll go the 'Eavy Metal Route but with more Black and Keep the Reds and Blues as spot colours
And you've already included their first slaves

Abecedar
Why yes, yes indeed I have, and now I know I can have allies I can bring out some more of them!!

Hunter:

Holy moly! That army looks great! I’m all about the big hats, so I love seeing such a wonderful collection.

Why thank you very much, I hope that this PLog will not disappoint. So enough talking more pics!

And now a couple of mornings and nights works.

I can’t do test scheme on a single model I need to do a couple to see how it fits. Need to pick up some more red as well as some blue as my cats happened.

Also Green Stuff practise (not keeping this going with banners)

Miasma:

So the bank holiday weekend has come and gone and unfortunately I was unable to work on my miniatures as I am out of Undercoat and Red (and funds) so instead of letting it shall I decided to scratch build some movement gets for 3 units. I now have trays for 20 warriors and 2x 10 blunderbus units. I also noticed that I need some tips for a couple of standards so am raising my bits box for anything bull like. Does anyone have an idiot’s guide (really simple) for making a bulls head from green stuff. I’m talking about the Hero Banner Pole size and style!

Abecedar:

Saw that you were back in your “whipping into shape” thread and had to re-read this one.

I suck at greenstuff making but a little while back I carved some basic bulls heads out of sprue.
I only have this one early pic of how it was going but you can get the idea.

With a bit more time and care and some green stuff details over the top you could make them much better
