ClawLeader:

So I’ve got two earth shakers and a death rocket, the rocket being scratch built. My question is how can I best make the earthshaker model relevant to the new larger de size and I really dont want to just up and toss them. I checked around the forum albeit not intensively and didn’t get a clear cut answer I was looking for.

Thommy H:

There’s no reason you can’t use the old Earthshaker model as a Dreadquake Mortar. The WF Dreadquake model represents a war machine mounted on a carriage for being pulled by the Iron Daemon - but they have the same number of Wounds/crew (optional Slave Ogre excepted) and fire a comparable shot. There’s nothing to say a Dreadquake need be bigger than any other war machine.

ClawLeader:

The deathrocket I can dismantle and expand on, and I’m just double checking with the dreadquake. Much appreciated

Groznit Goregut:

I’ve got an old one that I’m planning on using as a Magma Cannon.

Da Crusha:

regardless if the dreadquake model is a representative of the carriage mounted war machine, it is still the only official dreadquake model. so what I plan on doing is using my old earthshaker and mounting it on an appropriately sized toy train carriage. this way it is as close to the Dreadquake size as possible. I’ll then convert it to give it the proper look.

as far as in game goes, I would like it to be the appropriate size because the dreadquake has a much bigger footprint than the typical warmachine.

ClawLeader:

I am not a fan of the massive size for the warmachines and kind of bummed about it for what I have. Now, that is my opinion and will still make the weapons sized right. Foot print wise its crazy but hey it is what it is. The mortar doesn’t have to be on the carriage does it? That is an upgrade afterall, correct?

In game? in game, you do not have to pay for the carriage upgrade.

And if you have the FW model you get to see over all your troops without paying any more points!

Bummer is that if you scratchbuild to the "official" height, you have the situation of people calling you a schmuk. Go figure.....

its a weird situation, I would feel like a schmuck even more so if I don't convert it. easier to avoid being shot by templates since it has a smaller footprint, smaller model means less chargeable and less visible.

on the other hand converting it means Ill have greater visibility, larger foot print means I could turn it so I could block chargers to protect other war machines.

either way I won't likely use it unless the hellcannon gets nerfed.

Thommy H:

Again, there’s no rule that says a model has to be the same size as the “official” one, and the Dreadquake model is obviously so huge because it’s mounted on a carriage and has a Slave Ogre for 3 extra Wounds. By default, it should really be no larger than the old Earthshaker. There’s a reason the war machines in the Legion of Azgorh list equate to the classic 4th/5th edition ones: it’s so those with existing Chaos Dwarf armies can use the rules for their collection too!

You don’t need to convert any old models. You can if you want, of course, but they all work fine, both thematically and rules-wise without modification.

Dr.Mojo:

I agree with Thommy here, and will add that the one model you would need (in my opinion) to modify would be a death rocket if you are going to use it as a magma cannon. This is not too hard, just cut off the rocketish tip of the cannon, and add a lava tank somewhere connected with the back of the cannon.

cornixt:

The Forgeworld units were cunningly designed in style and name so we could use all our old models with it. So that’s what I do.
