A Roman throwing tower found at VettweiY-Froitz-heim in Germany. The sides have been worked open, so that the players could see the dice rolling. Invented to prevent cheating. Text on the back reads: utere felix vivas (‘use it and live as a lucky man’).

4th century

On the front it says Pictos victos hostis deleta ludite securi (‘The Picts have been defeated, the enemy destroyed, play carefree’).

The text refers to a Roman victory over the Picts in Scotland, north of Roman Britannia.

Uther the unhinged:

Romans. They create a wasteland and call it civilization.

The picts laughed last.

But cool tower nonetheless.

Admiral:

Tacitus’ Galgacus speech. Stands the test test of time! :hat off

Uther the unhinged:

Yep. Great speech.

Sadly I suspect in reality it was more along the lines of

?o See them Roman B******s, they?Tre after our women. Get ?~em!?

But never let reality get in the way of a good story.

Abecedar:

Is it made of Tin?
