[Archive] Rune of Hashut Idea

blackwolf.scortch:

I wa reading the thread on the Black Fortess rune, and looking at th erunes in ToC and it reminded me of something I did years ago to my players in a WFRP game. Considering that many runes are virtually ‘stick figure’ pictures to make them easier to carve in hard objects, i looked at the Hashut rune in this orientation:

ansd saw a Taurus/Lammasu like figure. ie from left to right we can see a horned/bearded head, neck, shoulders, wings and front/back legs.

This started appearing in out of the way places to preface the eventual encounter with a Chaos Dwarf - who promptly handed the party their collective bu77s :stuck_out_tongue:

At the risk of being flamed for heresy what are peoples thoughts?

rabotak:

i must admit it took me quite some time to see what you see in the rune… and i think it could somehow resemble a lammasu…in a way! i wonder if that could have been intentional 19 years ago… i guess we’ll never know, but it would be an explanation to why the rune is always depicted in this way, rather the more popular readings nowadays, turning the symbol 90¤ in either direction.

Skink:

It is quite an imaginative interpretation. I don’t think it was intentional back than though. What could be very interesting is a freehand banner with a Lammasu/Taurus posed as Hashut’s rune.

vulcanologist:

Interesting extrapolation! I can definately see where you’re coming from. You could well be right!

cornixt:

I think Thommy first noticed the similarity a few years ago.

Oops, sorry for the inadvertent rehash of old ideas, tried a search on Rune of Hashut but couldn’t find anything. Just goes to show that no idea is truly new

But think i will still use it in my banners, at least to distinguish from Korne.
