[Archive] Russian alternative models

Lord_Yepez:

Hello everyone,

Ive been looking at the Russian alternative chaos dwarfs, and they seem to have what I’m kind of going for, heavily armored chaos dwarfs.

However do any of you happen to have pictures of the models themselves? or know where I can see pictures of all ten models that come within the box set?? I like the majority of the models excepts for a few that have the faces showing, I just like the models armored from head to toe. aha

Plus i figured i could just swap these head with WoC heads?

Thanks for your time guys,

and I look forward to your responses.

CDO member Rozmax made all those Russian Alternative dwarf models. Check out his awesome progress and you'll be able to see all the miniatures.

These were taken several months ago and are not necessarily the best angles for what you want, but it’s a start, so here you go:

*Bloodbeard: I just checked out all 20 pages of his blog, he is a very talented individual and has sculpted some amazing stuff, pretty breathe taking!

*Nicodemus: Thank you for the picture, it really helped out!
It seems that half the heads have masks while the other half do not, which isn't to bad, and ive been reading around and unfortunately no masked head bits are sold! :(:|
By any chance do you happen to own any titan wargames miniatures?
Im just curious how these Russian alternative models mix in with them!

JMR:

They mix in fairly well.

Their size is similar, although the Russian Alternative models are slightly shorter and a bit bulkier. I find they fit almost perfectly amongst the Titan Wargames dwarves when you glue the heads on a little higher than intended. The main difference however, is the size of the heads. Some of the RA heads are twice the size of Titan Wargames’ heads. The RA heads differ quite a bit in size amongst themselves too. Just look at the picture above and compare the heads that are on the right end of each sprue. The helmet head with the plume is much smaller than the head above it.

The RA weapons are also a lot larger, come to think of it.

Overall, Titan Wargames dwarves are more realistically proportioned, while Russian Alternative’s models are more cartoonish. Both are fantastic.

You could consider using the RA models as characters. They certainly are detailed enough for it.

ClawLeader:

There’s nothing realistic about a dwarf… Nontheless seeing these models as they are reinforces my want for them.

Gotta keep the cartoony bighats going. Both Titan and rozmax’s are well done.

JMR:

Having compared both models again, I take back that RA models are bulkier. They’re not really. The real differences are the heads and weapons.

I really like both models, I just want to make sure the mix well together ! But what JMR pointed out they do make good characters!!!!
also I like the pointy hats I just wished they faces were masked! Aha
I knowni should have mention this earlier but do these two models mix well with forge world chaos dwarfs?

ClawLeader:

Any reason why they need masks?

Lord_Yepez:

ClawLeader
Its just personal preference, I like the whole fully armored appearance and the full helmets!
I've never liked flesh or faces on any models! Aha :D

Dînadan:

Why not just sculpt a mask over those with exposed faces?

ClawLeader:

Dînadan
It's fairly easy and it limits the masks appearance to what you can do with sculpting.

Truth be told I have zero experience with green stuff and with sculpting >.< so I will be very limited aha:P

Lord_Yepez
Well, if you never start you'll never gain experience ;). Wouldn't be hard at all - just mix up the green stuff/brown stuff/procreate/milliput/etc and use it to cover up the face/fill in the gap between the helm's cheek guards. Use the flat of the sculpting tool or a knife to flatten it and viola you have your mask ;)

Lord_Yepez
and that's why I started my chaos dwarves. I wanted an excuse to sculpt and I had zero experience. I'm no good, but way better then the first warrior i did. It's well worth it.
