Inspired by BloodBeards excellent Project : Exodus, I thought I would share the ‘serious games’ project I have been working on which keeps me away from the forum… - SeriousGeoGames

I’m a researcher and I work building computer models of rivers to help predict flooding, particularly the geomorphic changes that go on during flooding. I set up SeriousGeoGames to help me communicate my research, and general flood risk science, at events.

My first game was ‘Humber in a Box’ which used our computer model and the Unity3D gaming engine to make a model of the UK’s Humber Estuary. You view it using an Oculus Rift headset and can raise the sea level and see where flooding might happen in the future.

I’ve recently been working with some local developers (BetaJester) to make Flash Flood!, which places you in a virtual river valley, made from data we collected in the field using GPS and lasers. The catch is that it is about to catastrophically flood.

I’m using these at our local science festival in a couple of weeks and want to make them as freely available as possible. Please take a look if you’re interested. Follow the Twitter (@seriousgeogames) or find the facebook page too!
