[Archive] Shaking the paint - a cheap trick

Bloodbeard:

Came up with an idea a couple of days ago. It works like a charm, so i thought I’d share with the community.

I mostly use vallejos colours and supplement with GWs metal (like them the most). But both should be shaken pretty well before use and we all know how annoying that piece of work can be.

So I bought some 6mm stainless steel nuts (like bolts and nuts) from the local hardware store. Didn’t really cost anything.

Put one in each of my paints, both GW and Vallejo.

Shaking the paint is faster and gets a much better result. And you can make some maracas music at the same time.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

LOL That’s actually a bit clever. A slave for you sir!

Bloodbeard:

Thank you. Will put him right on the barbeque!

If anyone tries the trick please share your experience. Might be a way to improve it.

Blue in VT:

I do a similar thing with my Vallejo paints though I use a fishing weight called a split shot sinker (at least thats what we call them in the US) you can get bags of them cheap at the sports store and since they are not make of lead anymore they are safe to use.

Cheers,

Blue

Bad Gram Northern:

it’s a tried and tested method. I read about it on some forum a few years ago and used it since then. Works like a charm!

on a few occasions i accidently used a not-rust free nut, not good! don’t do that

Kamphre:

Reaper sell their paint pots with a small skull already included, doing the same as your steel piece.
It’s a small bonus when you finish a pot and open it !

That is just awesome! Adding the skullfactor to your range of paints.

I've always used BB's like for an air rifle. Cheap as dirt to buy 300 of them.
