[Archive] Siege Giant

thewizardofoz:

I am developing my army and want to take things that I like rather than the conventional tourney lists.

I am thinking of dropping my Kdaii destroyer as everyone now has something to deal with it - in my last tournament a goblin boss with relic sword and dragonhelm charged it on its own and beat me!

I am thinking of Siege Giant and Hellcannon as my rare choices. The Hellcannon is pretty basic (Doom and Darkness first, Doomfire shot, Daemonsmith within 3" for the reroll) but how do I use a Siege Giant effectively?

The armour is handy but in the game I used him in the other day, he got cannoned off. I was thinking that he is going to be most useful as a sacrificial lamb to be a target for my opponents shooting for a turn maybe two to work in collaboration with my fireborn and renders, to stop my opponent attacking my blocks of dwarfs?

Does anyone else use a siege Giant differently?

Willmark:

In my experiences giants are fun and a great models but as you not usually attract inordinate amounts of artillery and magic.

My experiences mirror yours unfortunately :frowning:

Chico:

Sadly a Giant isn’t a meta choice but rather a fun and enjoyable distraction in a game. I run 2 Giants in both my Beastmen and Goblin 2.4k lists but they don’t do much sadly (Even though the Beastmen Giant can still regain wounds by eating people).

thewizardofoz:

Yeah, sounds pretty much as I expected then - I was hoping somebody had a secret way of using them without them getting shot to pieces.

I’m pretty much going for the inclusion of fun stuff. I’m a terrible gamer so might as well have some fun on the bottom table at tournaments. lol

Thanx for your help anyway.

Grimbold Blackhammer:

When I run my giant, and that’s not often, I put him behind my Hobgoblins or my Hobo Wolf Riders. That puts him at -2 to be hit and, cannonballs aside, is usually enough to get him into combat. Or I deploy him so he can get behind a building easily. Both work.

I use a Siege Giant rather rarely, but I play him just as Grimbold says above, he's pretty quick on the move, so I send him out behind Hobgoblin Wolf Raiders (I do the same trick with the Destroyer).
In the case of the Siege Giant, he's random, prone to screw up and totally fun for it. I play Warhammer to have fun, I don't care one way or another if I win the game (yes, it's always nice to win)...but after 20 years of playing, I've come to enjoy the game based on the "fun" factor.
So have some fun with the game, use what you like and enjoy :cheers

You don't get the cover, because giants are large targets.

I was thinking the same thing ^^

I was thinking the same thing - they're large targets, but I must admit I am so bad at remembering the rules that I did get excited then! lol

I could always run the Siege Giant behind the Kdaii - 325point human shield - lol

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Large targets don’t benefit from the cover of obstacles like hedges or walls but do benefit from the protection of a unit in front of him (don’t ask me why…).

Oh ok, I will look into it. That may change my list completely then. Thank you.

Sorry to hijack my own thread but How is rebuilding your army going? It was you that lost your army in the flood right?

Willmark:

The only consolation is that at least when your opponents focuses on your giant he isn’t shooting other stuff

Yeah that's sort of what I like. 2 big blocks of dwarfs to move across the board and the Giant, renders, Kdaii and general on Taurus to distract and cause havoc but if I can shield him then all the better.
