Loidrial:
Easy question, looking around you see or normal skin color or gray one for the dwarves. I’m still fighting with myself for decide wich one of the 2 to use, so far i made 3 models with grey faces.
What do you like more and why?
What with the beards instead? I usualyl make them black with blue reflexes for the troops, but I was thinking to make the orange ones for eventual heroes.
But that will look stupid, like all the heroes like this are some sort of clan/unit, I need some advice for it.
I have the 90’s models, and they will be painted with the classic red gold iron scheme, maybe just the sorcerer in purple or some other color.
Thx for help :hat off

You should try the search function for some of all your questions Loidrial.
One search for “skin color” in ‘titles only’ came up with this thread abut the exact same question:
Skin Colour debate, advice and examples.
And here is one from searching “beard”. Painting beards.

Sorry, I tryed many times in the search bar, but nothing is ever found. idk what is wrong...

As a rule, forum search engines are unreliable. I’m not sure if this is true for CDO as well, but it certainly is (or was) for other sites. It’s often possible to manually find a thread that you’ve searched for in vain on other sites, despite entering the correct searchwords.
Loidrial:
Is it there any reason why they have mostly.black beards?
Sometimes I see some of them with the orange one.
Are there any reasons in the lore?
Cuz now for give some difference I think I will make 1 orange beard every 3/4 blacks.on the infantry.
Or will it looks stupid?
Abecedar:
I believe it is that most people associate brown, orange, tan and blonde beards with the despised Vanilla Dwarfs. I think from memory and image wise that deep black beards are associated with the braided and coiled beards from historical cultures. There are a few guys here that are really up on that sort of stuff and they could illuminate the subject more.
Personally I’m a proponant of Blue Beards.

do you have any names so i can eventually ask?
so far i painted only 4 models, 3 with black/blue beard and 1 orange, i have 1 pic on my cellphone but it sucks, because my cellphone sucks.
I have to understand if it will looks stupid have some orange beards so here and there in a big army with everyone else having it blue (even because i really liked the effect of the orange beard)
btw something like, if i recall correctly, the original lord on taurus had blue and yellow beard, every lock of 1 color.
Here you can kinda see my dwarves, they are not this shiny in real life, when i will get my girlfriend cellphone i will make some pics with hers.
I'm trying to make them with some difference in the colours, all same base, but one has a black hat, with blue arrows, one has black hat and golden/silver arrows and things like this.
It is for change some details but still leave some idea of equality.
Do you think it can work?
Abecedar:
Sorry but I cannot remember who does what colours off-hand at the moment.
The advice I give to all and sundry is to take the time to browse through all the army blogs ans see what people have been doing. I spent days in total doing just that when I first started.
My big hats are about to evolve a little bit as my first efforts at choosing a colour scheme just doesn’t quite do it for me.
Mixing colours can be scheme in its own right. If you choose the set of colours for the hats that you have in the photo as your standard and work with them I think you should do all right as you refine it…
But the orange beard looks very good. Remember we are dark lands dwarfs with lots of lava around. And I think someone has done them before and they worked well if my memory serves me correctly

i only hope i can get some other opinion from other users, even if i doubt it.
as i will have internet again at home in 1 week or so i will check other people work (cant do it from job because policy blocks pictures)
TheHoodedMan:
I would strongly recommend to mix not too wildly in all respects (beards, applications, a.s.o.). Try the colors with a completed base, too. Coherent basing will have a drastically effect and maybe the colors work different with a certain basing.
Blue or black beards are great but fx Abecedar used effectively orange beards, too.
Skin color is excellent and works well with the blue and orange beards.
You can also go for some shades or highlighting on the weapons, details and armour. More work but pays out.

I didnt get this part. what do you mean?
The models are not finished, aside the base i left out the metal part on the weapons because i'm out of ink atm.
do you think i painted them with a too wide range of differences?
TheHoodedMan:
It`s a matter of personal taste, I like a more consistent color palette per unit at the least. But otherwise the monopose models can be varied this way. Just keep the basing in mind.
