[Archive] Slaves in units

gandalfthegimp:

I’ve seen a couple of people using 10 slaves at the front of 20 hobgoblin units. I’m pretty sure they’re playing old rules, but I still couldn’t find anything out about it in 5th Ed.

Could anyone shed light on it?

Thommy H:

What do you mean by slaves exactly? Hobgoblins are themselves a kind of slave.

I'm pretty sure they've been cited as providing a "cheap, first line of defence"

Thommy H:

Oh, okay. That’s just a (kind of gross) modelling choice. They count as Hobgoblins, I assume.

Yeah, I am not too keen on pushing the boundaries of "grimdark settings" too far either. I mean, this is still a game of miniatures after all...

Anyway, Yes! Those are definitely Hobgoblin proxies! You can check Tjub or Pappa Midnight´s blogs out in the Army Blog section. They made some pretty rad Slave units using Empire Flagellants.

Timothy Archer:

not sure but i think those tacky and lame slaves are from the guy whining about his blue table painting experience on YouTube . it make sense …

Grimbold Blackhammer:

Not a far of lounging super-models posing on rocks surrounded by lava; just looks out of place to me. But we’re all free to do what we want with our armies so…

Carcearion:

Ooof, Yeah. They don’t look great on either front. The old naked chained ladies don’t pair well with hobgoblins, and the strangely Victorian captives don’t look any better next to either of them.

I think Papa Midnight’s incredibly good looking and more thematic slaves make these even worse then they might have already in the eyes of your average CDO forum goer, here is a snipit of his work by comparison:

gandalfthegimp:

totally, thanks guys!

Do they’d just proxy for hobgobs, costing the same amount of points and doing the same as the rest of the unit in practice?

Thommy H:

Yes. They’re just alternative models.
