and I’m not particularly impressed. Some things got better, some got worse. The army changed overall but it’s still ‘dwarfy’. I did notice they lost the flee & pursue -1" penalty which is nice. They got some faster units which is nice. And they’re a little more durable/killy but not overly so. Their infantry is properly priced so it reinforces just how poorly ours is over-costed which I didn’t like. But the big miss was they still don’t do much of anything in the magic phase. The good news is no one will complain about Magma Cannons anymore =) I’m definitely still going to stick with our book, not tempted by this in the least!
Good to hear that they got something in line with the Magma Cannon, I had a Dwarf player cry all day when he faces it and especially since he had brought his on flame cannon.
Dwarf flame cannon got only 12" range and -1 to missfire roll so its still worse. I dont understand why some dwarfs are so happy about it. Our main advantage is magic and destroyer. They got very hard hitting infantry with optional vanguard and new GW favored child gyrocopters/gyrobombers. I think dwarfs will be hard match up against CHD. We cant run from their infantry and shooting duel might be risky. If they want they can start with 3 big infantry blocks 12" away of our line and miners waiting at any edge.We have to count on some big spell ASAP but with possible 2 dispell scrolls or spelleater, double 6’s are welcome.
About the fluff, I have heard they got some major step forward in timeline but dont know if anything about CHD.
This is definitely a case where one cannot compare units side-by-side. But I will say ours is 10 points more expensive and has a 24" range versus their 12". Dwarfs can make theirs ST7.
I highly encourage my Dwarf opponents to feed me their units one at a time and put a big, expensive chunk of their army 12" away from my lines on turn 1. I will be very excited to wipe it out early in the game!
Basically everything in their book that was bad got better and everything that was good got a little worse. Their book shifted to be more fighty and less shooty.
In general I’m quite happy, love the fackt that is a Runesmith/lord joins a unit the get armour piercing. it doents state only in hand to hand combat and because Quattelers now have Heavy armour I’m looking forward in fielding a horde quarrelers wit runesmith and greatweapons and just go crazy.
love how the updated a lot of the runes and that we now have acces to multiple S4 flaming breath weapons. and my hammerers can have vanguard!

No.
Page 67 BRB. The unit gets the armor piercing special rule which if you look at the BRB specifies close combat only, not shooting. If they gave their crossbows armor piercing that would be different.
Book seems decent. It should change the current meta of montrouous cav units being so common. The dwarfs can take care of those units with relative ease now.
The army also got faster being able to take strollaz multiple times when combined with miners/rangers/gryos.
The irondrakes seem decent, but expensive. Good thing they are fighting for points in the rare section with the bombers.
I’ve not been all the way through it but, I haven’t found any references yet. That is unless you count the Irondrakes because that unit just screams Dwaii Zhar wanna be…
I’m interested to see how often the bombers show up in lists. I think they’re an intriguing choice but a dwarf player friend of mine thinks they’re garbage.
I believe sending parts of your army forward in tiny bite-sized pieces is a great way to lose. I don’t see how those bombers expect to last beyond turn 1 if the Dwarf player sends them forward.

Well if you are right you are (I'll have to gat a look at it when sober).
annyhou, i just spend a few hour building lists and I have a lovely 2000 points list with 2 hordes (hammereres and longbeards) and a giro coming at you with vanguard. could be fun agains anyone who is nog so eager to fight as i generally am.

You need to build your list accordingly. As has all ready been pointed out......
Rangers - Scout special rule Miners - Underground advance Strollaz Rune - Vanguard special rule
You can get multiple units across the board to support. They have given you the option to build an in your face army.
Most people won't. They will take Iron Drakes over Rangers and sit back and shoot.
Or just give your iron drakes the strollaz rune and go hunting.
I totally agree with the OP- not interested in using this book for my CD at all. Bought it and promptly turned around and sold it to a friend… it’s just not a good match for CD, imo. I would miss all the hobgobs, bull centaurs, and monster-y things our book offers too much to take this one up on it’s siren call of low-points-cost dwarf infantry.
