[Archive] Some question of newbie

Quercus:

Hello,

I just started collecting chaos dwarfs and I’ve got some question about these little butchers  Im also newbie so that’s why questions can be “nooby”.

1. About edition compatibility:

Are infernal guards replaced chaos dwarf warriors? I mean i can use that as two different units?

2. I saw that Forge World’s bullcentaurs are huuge and have huge bases and there is next question: I want to convert mantic halfbreeds and give them standard cavalry bases.  I mean are that Renders (from FW) are different unit than normal 5 ed. bullcentaurs? So can I do something like that?

3. Are conversions and models from different brand legal on tournaments? I mean that I can use for e.g. some of russian alternative or AoW chaos dwarf lord? Is this can stop me from playing tournaments?

Greetings!

(I’m so sorry for my poor english by the way)

Dînadan:

Assuming you’re using the FW list from the Tamurkhan book:

1) both the FW Infernal Guard and the old big hats can be used as Infernal Guard or Infernal Ironsworn. In fact (unless I’m mistaken) the reason the list allows IG to have blunderbusses even though FW don’t make them is so people can use the old minis

2) rules wise there is no distinction between the old BCs and the new ones, they all follow the same rules from the Tamurkhan list and as such should be based as the FW ones are.

3) depends on the tournament; you will have to ask the organiser in advance. For GW run tournaments it’s a definite no - only GW minis (I.e. Citadel and FW) minis may be used in official GW tourneys. For independent tournements there is no set answer and you must ask the organiser for permission in advance.

Lava Lord:

:hat off  Quercus, nice to meet ya.  Dinadan was very complete in his answer, couldn’t have added much more.  The main thing that is wise to do is, as Diadan said, always check with the organizers.

As for the army units conversions are great and using the old as well as different kingdoms can work.  There can be  no mistake that they are chaos dwarves or their minions.  Like night goblins
as hobgoblins etc.  Chaos dwarves used lots of slaves, that opens explainable use of flagalents, bullies, peasents, etc.  So, as long as they can be explained from their history, go for it and enjoy!!

Bloodbeard:

GW have strict Citadel Miniatures only policies for the events they host. Or miniatures comverted from Citadel parts. In Denmark I’ve never met any restrictions on miniature brand (we only have one GW store), as long as the models look good and fit the setting of warhammer they can be used.

It’s rather important that you plant your BCs on the right bases though, because it’s a pretty big game hack if the only use the small cavalry bases.

IMO the FW BCs have way too large bases though, compared to other monsters with similar og better stats. But that’s life.
