[Archive] Spell Idea

the_rat:

So, I threw together a lore containing mostly renamed current spells, but there’s one spell I made myself and I would like some feedback. I’m worried it’s a little too powerful and I’m wondering what the casting value should be on it. It’s based on the old Sorcerer’s Curse spell (at least the concept, anyway).

Curse of the Dawi’zharr

Target a single enemy model within 12". This spell may target individual characters within units. If the spell is successfully cast the target may begin to turn to stone. Roll a D6. If two power dice were supplied to cast the spell, the target will turn to stone on a roll of 6. If three dice were used, the target will turn on a 5+, 4 dice 4+, 5 dice 3+. If the spell was cast with irresistible force the model will turn to stone on one less score than usual for that number of dice. Ex: IF on 2D6 means target will turn on 5+ instead of 6. If the target has a ward save it may be attempted to prevent the curse.

So, too good? Too complicated? Cool? Hit me with your thoughts.

Thommy H:

Too complicated. Make it a roll under a certain characteristic (S or I) and then the casting value should be about 9+, since it only targets one model.

Yes, I was going to do it that way at first, but then I felt it was both a poor spell and very selective. An I test would make most sense, but then it would be really bad against armies like VC and Elves, but stellar against O&G and Dwarfs. An S test would make it so that the spell would be working on 5 or 6 every time, which I guess is okay. I’ll play test that for the first round.

So target model takes S test, 6 is always a failure. 9+ you say? I’ll see how it goes.
