[Archive] starting chaos dwarfs(1)

magmaschlund:

Hi, I’be been collecting whf for quite a while now. Mostly empire. But I’be always had a thing for dwarfs. Especially the nasty ones. So after years of cruising the web, I finally decided to build up my own Dawi Zharr force.

I love the russian alternative models, but since there is no gaming club at my city but a gw-store I rather had to go with fw or do some conversions from gw-models. Ambitious as I am I went for the second. And since a whole bunch of people did impressive converting the bfsp-dwarfs (including tutorials) I went for converting WoC for my infernal guards. These are the first 5 of 20, probably another 20with fireglaives/blunderbuss.

As for bull centaures I was thinking of a Chaos knight’s horse+oger bull chop-job. But that’s just a thought.

Please tell me what you think, on conversion, paintjob, basing.

Cheers!

Grimstonefire:

The basing needs improving imo. The colours are too similar to the armour. Otherwise an impressive cutting down of the woc models.

Sticklander:

Great conversions! Promising start!

With regards to the Bull Centaur conversions, personally I’m not a fan of using chaos knight’s horses as the base, as the models start to look more like centaurs, than bull centaurs. But whatever you go with, I’m looking forward to seeing it!

Bloodbeard:

Well that’s a nice start. Let me say this: Good job cutting them up! I like this start!

What helmet are those? I like those flat helmets.

I might be the blitz messing with the pictures - but I’ll add some advice.

Wash the entire miniature with “Agrax Earthshade” - it’ll bind all the colours neatly together. And give the “fire” part of the weapon a wash of “gryphonne sepia”/“seraphim sepia”. That has done wonders for my own miatures (see more in my blog - there should be some before/after wash pictures of guys).

I’ll give Grimestonefire that the bases look too light. Take a look at some pictures of magma. I would darken it up a lot and add some black to it - should be a contrast to the light armour.

The light brown armour is cool!

Regarding bullcentaurs. I planned on using warhammer ogres and chaos warhorses. But I find citadel ogres to be too large (and too fat!). I used mantic ogres instead, but in your situation I would use black orcs. Black orcs have a better size to the chaos horses.

And they may end up looking horsy. To cut a groove in their hooves to make them more bull like - and then change the tail. I use very with a green stuff tip. The tails does a lot turning it from horse to bull.

Yodrin:

Thats a very nice start with good conversions. I agree with Grim though, you need another color on your bases. Maybe stone/grey with black edges…?

magmaschlund:

Thank you for the feedback!

I totally agree on the bases, I’ll definitely redo them. Also since the rocks are made from styrofoam, not cork.

The armour is not brown but golden thou, need to work on the quality of the pictures too. I also I changed the color of the weapons to more orange, but I’ll try the sepia.

I’ll keep you guys posted!

Bloodbeard:

Oh. And please do start a blog and let us follow this army on it’s way to power.

Doxor:

Hey everyone I hope this is not the totally wrong spot du ask this, but I saw no better thread for my question: Does anyone of you knows (good lookin) IG conversions out of hammerers? I love their look and with some beatsmen axes and big hats/teeth/ noses they should be great CDs.

Admiral:

Beastmen axes is a good idea for Chaos Dwarfication of Hammerers. There have been quite some nice CD conversions of the new Dwarf elite plastic kits, but I can’t find any other than Dînadan’s here. Whilst his is good, they don’t have great weapons, which might be what you’re looking for.

Doxor:

YEAH! Thats more or less exactly what I was looking for. Execept the great weapons, where I would use the Bestigor ones, but lord this is one hell of a blog. I knew I couldnt be the first with this idea

Kera foehunter:

if you want a true chaos dwarf army you chop up other army"s to make your perfect army. I have some chop and green stuff and show how to make figure in my blog:hat off
