I think the color of the background works best/depends on the color of the model in the foreground…the model (and its base) itself should be the focus. So a bright white background can snuff out a light colored model, and the same goes for a black background blotting out a darker “ashen” colored model. And if still undecided, I have found that a nuetral gray background can be very effective

GW did a bunch of moody" photos for the White Dwarf when deamons were released, ie black background, and to me the models tended to disappear into the background. Though had this weird red lighting going on too (I think).
