[Archive] Tamurkhan virgin (be gentle with me)

Thommy H:

It is... or it would be if it didn't begin by assuming all 90 shots hit and all 90 hits wounded and that the only thing that could stop the target dying is their armour save. (I assume that's how you calculated that, anyway, as I couldn't see how you reached anything like those figures?).
That would be why the word "possible" was employed, I would think. Nillbog didn't say it was likely or even probable - just possible. Which it is, in the best case scenario.

KramDratta:

The charmed shield is ideal for the daemonsmith because cannons do D6 wounds, so the LOS! roll could result in a dead war machine.

nilbog
This.

If you are hit by a cannon ball & you do a look-out sir roll on the warmachine, the warmachine has a 50% of surviving...

Insidious:

I really like this list, I have yet to even try to put one together myself being very new to CD but I am about 100% this is along the lines of what I want to run, lots of good looking dwarfs.

Pretty dead set, even if it is bad for tournies, on not running and Hobgoblins now so even if shooting myself in the foot I could see myself playing a list very similar to this and having fun. Hope you give this list a few games testing and let us know what the results were cause I would very much like to see some list with no Hobgoblins / Wolf Riders results.

metro_gnome:

well I don’t have this many BBs… I’ll have to sprinkle some plastics into the unit…
But I thought 8th was the “go-big-or-go-home” edition for infantry blocks…
Even their rules favor units greater than 20… I wouldn’t field less than 24…
and for the sake of 6 guys the unit can now hold the line… in horde… with ranks…

As for stubborn… I would think that the Ld 10 plus BSB reroll would be enough to hold…
But its true I do see a lot of noise in the tactics and armylist section about stubborn…
I’ve always thought of it as a nice bonus… but never something I’d go out of my way for…
kinda like combat tactics… maybe I’m missing some crucial element in 8th…

but it seems I lost a fiver here somewhere…
I think it was the mask… man that thing is expensive…
I will drop the GWTaur’s musician to compensate…

yeah well its not so much that I am against Hobbies…
though I never had original models… I did have a full units of night gobbo Wolf rider conversions…
and stikka stand-ins on foot… but my son is hearing the call of the Waaaagh! so I am recomissioning them to him…
Still might bring a wolf khan some time… though he would seem well outta place in a hobbieless army…

Stubborn is awesome in 8th. Stubborn Ld10 rerollable will practically never run. Essentially this means you can organise your ranks how you want without worrying about a rank bonus for combat resolution.

If you don't have stubborn you have to be careful with steadfast rules reranking to get more ranks instead of having a wider front line for more attacks.

I find it's exceptionally good for Infernal guard with ranged weapons as they can start off in two ranks for maximum firepower, take a charge and hold easily even if they lose the first round of combat, then reform into an optimum formation to maximise attacks and rank bonus.

metro_gnome:

hmmm… i see… reforms in combat… that is a big deal…

but in my case… where the unit the prophet has joined shield dwarves…

which I would probably set up in 5x6 for classic static CR… from the start…

would the crown of command be an asset?.. more so than say Lvl 4?

and while on the topic of magic… what should be done here?

I guess fire or metal for the smith… but which for the Prophet?

It’s really a shame that we lost the shadow lore… more appropriate than death imho… mindrazor looks awesome…

makes me want to run my lammasu… is it possible to run the unmounted version or is that a SoM thing only?

But I hear good things about the purple sun… and Hashut looks fun but a little combo-y for my taste… so death or hashut?

Baggronor:

I usually give the Prophet Crown of Command for 2 stubborn blocks. They are so expensive, they need to be tough to shift.

Fire or Metal is indeed good for the Smith.

I prefer lore of Hashut for the Prophet as it is the CDs’ unique lore. Death is handy for sniping, Fire is nice for all-round usefulness. Metal is cool but won’t yield the best results for a lv4.
mindrazor looks awesome…
Yeah, its a bit too awesome really.
But I hear good things about the purple sun…
Its great as long as you don’t misfire. It gets very expensive when you do…

metro_gnome:

well thanks for the brief rundown… I’ll think about the crown…

but I’m not sure its worth the loss of Level 4 though…

But while considering the Lammasu (which is impossible btw)… it would be difficult at 170 base…

but at 195 base the lvl 2 barely competes with the Great Taurus in stats and Bale in price… yuck…

But instead this lead me to take a serious look at the great taurus… and its not bad at all…

10 points cheaper than the Taur’ruk (which is the closest thing to compare it to)…

and you get +1S, flying (for your general) and terror… -1I? meh… no save is a bummer tho…

but weird fire stuff kinda helps out… especially if you take the fire lore…

The Bale is not in the cards for this list…

but If I drop the BBs down to 24… drop the lvl on the prophet…

and switch the Mask for Dragonhelm + Endurance on the BSB…

I could get a Taurus for my prophet… and run the BSB with the shield dwarves…

Like so:

Prophet: Great Taurus, Preservation, Blood of Hahsut, Enchanted shield

Castellan: BSB, Endurance, Dragonhlem, Shield

Daemonsmith: Dispel Scroll, Charmed Shield

24 Infernal Guard: FC, Blunderbusses

29 Infernal Guard: FC

4 Bull Centaurs: FC, GW

4 Bull Centaurs: FC, Shields

1 Deathshrieker Rocket

1 Magma Cannon

1 Hellcannon

Doesn’t affect my drops… actually it adds one…

and a flying monsterous mount is actually less “all-eggs-in-one-basket” :o

with the mobile prophet bubble I can use the BCs more agressively… if I want to…

or troll back and forth my deployment zone… or both with the flying movement…

anyone use a GT?

MLP:

Although I’ve never used a Taurus in anyway, I like that new list. It should be pretty hard to shift. The only one thing I’d consider is using the Special Character Drazorath or however you spell him, If you compare him to an equivilent Lv 4 lord on Bale Taurus he works out VERY cheap.

metro_gnome:

well I agree that he’s pretty good… certainly better than a normal Bale Lord…
and only 5 points more expensive than this lord on level 2 Lammasu… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
but he’s 90 points more expensive than my lord… who is level 3 on great taurus…
that would be my rocket… or daemonsmith… or something like that… maybe at 3K…

Ah yes in that case he's much less of an option. He is pretty tight to fit in 2500 points.
