I play a game against Empire today and wanted my Tau`ruk to have a “Look out, Sir!” (guess why;)).

So I planned to play 5 BC without champion.

But could I join him in my infernal guard as well?

I think you can on the side of the unit, but you dont get look out sir though:)

Dont think monstrous anything can join regular units unless its specifically written? Or is that only monsters? That LoS doesnt work for bigger bases anyhow, atleast how we played it for instance an orc warboss om boar dont get LoS when in a unit of regular non-mounted boyz. I dont know about the 4+ LoS though, you might be able to access that one?

Monsterous Infantry/Cavalry can join another unit and fit inside the unit if their footprints match up. Otherwise when the character joins, he tags along on the side.

He gets no look out sir from templates however but he can’t be targets by ballistic skill shooting so it can sometimes come in handy vs an organ gun or hell blaster

I knew that monstrous beasts in general could join infantry (just look at WoC Heroes on daemonic mounts) but was not sure with the Tau`ruk specifically.
Good with the clarifications concerning shooting, forgot that.

Vantraxx the Thrice Cursed:

The look out sir roll is dependent on the models classification not the base size. They need to be the same troop type. Eg Scyla is the same troop type as Dragon Ogres so he gets a look out sir roll but they have different base sizes. With a different base size the character needs to go to the side and is not able to make a make way move so you can end up in combat without the character being in base contact with anything. If the base size of the character fits within the footprint of a unit he is included for rank bonus eg a daemonic mount champion is on a 50mm base and chaos warriors have 25mm bases so he can be within the unit and takes the place of 4 characters. He can also make way because he fits into the unit footprint. He does not get a look out sir roll because he is a different troop type. There are exceptions to these rules like our daemonsmiths recieving a look out sir roll from warmachines.
