[Archive] The 40k Thread

Warhammerman:

I was bored so I decided to start a 40k thread just for general 40k. So I thought I’d start us off with a couple questions for people.

1. How many armies do you have for 40k?

2. What is your army generally about (IE color scheme and fluff and stuff like that)

3. Do you prefer 40k over Fantasy?

Feel free to converse about anything else and here I will answer my own questions.

1. I have at least 3 armies for 40k. One is a space marine force which is almost at Battle-Company strength, this army is known as the Sons of Redemption because they are obsessed with redeeming themselves and the entire human race so they go out of their way to torture traitors and stuff like that.

The other army is a space marine force known as the War Saints and they are knightly, heroic, and arrogant. This will be an entire 1st Company.

The last army is known as Shades of Vengeance which are very sneaky and guerrilla type army which will be an entire Raven Wing Company in the style of Dark Angels. (well sorta, it’ll have scouts, assault marines, and bikes)

2. This’ll come soon, because I am still writing up background for my armies.

3. I prefer fantasy because I hardly ever play 40k except for Apocalypse Battles where my marines almost always come in handy.

Thommy H:

  1. I have about 4,000 points of Dark Angels in a state of more-or-less disrepair. Parts have been cannibalised for my current Dark Angels army which is up to about 2,000 points (it’ll be 2,400 when I’ve painted all the things I’ve got for it so far). I also have maybe 1,000+ points of Witch Hunters which I need to strip and repaint and a new Ork army that’ll come after I’m done with the Dark Angels. Back in the day, I had Blood Angels and Orks (2nd Edition box set ftw!) but I wouldn’t call either of those disparate boxes of half-painted and broken models an “army” any more.

    2. Dark Angels are vanilla - but they’re themed around the next generation after my old army, with certain characters elevated to higher positions and my old army commander now in a Dreadnought. They’re also Deathwing-heavy without being pure Deathwing.

    3. At the moment, yeah. I’m on a 40K binge right now, but I imagine Fantasy will make a comeback eventually. I generally prefer one over the other depending on what I’m working on at any given moment.

That's cool I could probably throw a couple other armies together if I used a couple Imperial Guard lying around and Orks. But, those armies don't really interest me and I don't have the time or money for Imperial Guard or orks.

I also forgot to mention that I've been plannning a Pre-Heresy Alpha Legion force.

Kera foehunter:

#1 no armys

#2 n a

#3 Fantasy due to the point there squats are gone

Warhammerman:

Here is my 40k army fluff:

Sons of Redemption

War Saints

The Shades of Vengeance are upcoming and please not that my army fluff has been posted on Bolter and Chainsword. Just out of curiosity how many of you are members on there?

slev:

  1. Just the one.

    2. I have an Ork army, painted up as Deathskullz. I use quite few items from other armies as embellishments since I’m a bunch of feeyvin gitz.

    3. I like both, in different ways. Each scratches a different itch.

Once I get my existing armies “finished”, I’m looking at building a Crimson Fists army, but that’s waaaay long-term.

snowblizz:

  1. 4, Chaos Space Marines (several armies worth of figs), Nids, Orks and enough Deamons to make an army of it (thanks GW :mad).

    2. I’m more of a Total Hobby kind of guy. I’ve got a reasonable chunk of background for my CSM somewhere. But I’m more into the modelling and painting side.

    3. Right now I’m more into fantasy as my beloved CSM have had their soul ripped out from them. And not in that good “consumed by Deamons” way. It tends to flip form on to the other depending on what project is interesting me. Last year this time I went on an Ork binge with Waaagh-uary.

Loki:

Ok here goes

1: I have 8 40k armies

4 Space marine armys of at least 1500 each

1 Elder army 5000 pts

1 Witch hunters 2000 pts

1 Tau 2000 pts

1 Chaos Space marine 2000 pts

2: The space marine chapters that i chose to do are Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Red Scorpions which are a forge would army and the other one is a secret but i will be posting some pics on the site soon and i dont want to spoil the surprise

The elder are my own craft world, each model has flames painted on to black armour even the titian which took ages to do

The Witch hunters are a dark blue armour.

The Tau have bright blood red armour

and the Chaos are black legion

3: They are both very different but if i had to come down on one side of the fence it would be Fantasy

Pyro Stick:

  1. For 40k i have Deamonhunters (dont think i have enough for a legal force), Necrons and Iron Warriors (definately not enough for a legal force. 1 Troop unit short)

    2. Im not into making up background stories etc for my armies. I dont really see the point since the army in general already has a background. You can see my deamnhunters and iron warriors here: Deamonhunters, Iron Warriors

    3. I go through phases of being into Warhammer and then 40k. At the moment im into Warhammer Fantasy but i feel myself almost at the end of this phase and getting morei nto 40k again. I think all im going to do for now is finish some competition models and then ill be back into 40k until the Volgars are out and then i will be back into WFB.

Canix:

1.I have about 7000pts of Eldar ,Stripped and repainting at the moment as i am in a 40k phase.I am thinking of starting either a Tzeentch themed CSM army or Blood angels.

2.Used to be an Ulthwe webway strikeforce last year i mech’d and magnetized everything i have the background in my head but am not fluffy enough to write it

3.I go through phases and at the moment its 40k with a side order of fantasy .Haven’t had time to paint much but have had about 4 40k games to 2 with my CD’s in the past two months

I prefer 40k as a game but love fantasy models more :hat

Trawl through this thread and im sure you will be inspired to do a Tzeentch/Thousand Sons army: http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17801

Hashut’s Blessing:

It seems I actually have 4, which is quite a surprise. I collect Chaos Space Marines (my primary), Chaos Daemons (because I may as well, since I have Daemons of Chaos, lol), some tyranids with plans to get a carnifex or 6 (if only I could, lol) because of the Battle for Macragge box and, lastly, some Space Marines (my brother’s old army, plus models to convert into CSM and the models from battle for Macragge).

As a side note, if anyone is interested in buying some Space Marines (mostly just the bog standard infantry), PM me, please.

My CSM are a cross colour scheme between Black Legion and Iron Warriors. I loved the last book’s incarnation of Iron Warriors and followed that theme, but they were destroyed in the newer, boring, bland, unflavoursome book. I had mostly just added ome black to some of the armour because I thought it would look somewhat unfinishedif I had them all silver, but it also meant I could play a non-chapter specific army (essentially Black Legion), which would let me use Tzeentch rules (who is my favourite of the big 4, for fluff reasons). I have the odd Tzeentch symbol freehanded onto some models (a terminator and an obliterator to memory).

My Daemons are mostly Tzeentch, but I haven’t yet painted any of the Tzeentch daemons, lol (see the Starscream v Superfella thread for updates), but there is a linking colour of Ice Blue on them (swordgrips on Bloodletters, claws on Daemonettes, maybe fires, eyes, mouths on Horrors and will wait for plastics because I considr Plaguebearers).

Tyranids: Random paintschemes and test models for teaching my girlfreind.

Space Marines: Smurfs  All apinted by my broher, bar a few he got from eBay.

I’ve always preferred Fantasy, but I have ben playing more 40k recently and found Fantasy had stagnaed slightly for me because I wasn’t playing a varied enough set of opponents. However, I seem to currently have a dear spot for WotR over the other two main systems.

RoguePanda:

At the moment I have a Witch Hunters army almost finished, and a self created Space Marine force for 40k. They are both rather old though, so the painting is not so good. The most frightening thing is that I haven’t actually played a game of 40K with either of them! I am planning to get back into the game though, bought the rulebook a few months back. One I get the first 500 points of Chaos Dwarves fully painted (nearly there!) I plan to try a 40K Chaos Marine force. I am just torn between a variety of ideas… Either the Alpha Legion (always fun to be sneaky), or Night Lords (hey, their Primarch WAS Batman…)… or (my favourite) a renegade warband based around those Lamenter’s that didn’t surrender after their Chapter was surrounded during Blackhearts rebellion. After all… yellow Chaos Marines would be fun  I look forward to maybe seeing some piccies of these armies you all have some time?

RoguePanda
Alpha Legion is awesome. They are one of my favorite Chaos Legions of all time. I would go for them. Although Bat-Man...err...I mean Night Haunter and his legion of Night Lords was awesome.

Thommy H:

Have those Space Marines you’re selling been painted at all, HB?

AGPO:

I had a large collection of Sain-Heim Eldar at one point, which is now in varying states of disrepair. I also have a small force of Imperial Fists I’m rather fond of, and hope to expand some day. I also have half a legal force of Space Orks, so Black Reach might not be out of the question once I clear some of my current backlog…

I’ve always wanted to do a pre heresy space marine force, and at the moment I’m dabbling with the idea of Iron Warriors. If any of you are following the Dornian Altinate Heresy atm my idea was maybe to do some loyalist Iron Warriors and a warband featuring the now traitor chapters featured in the articles.

Joshmohr:

I have Orks, Dark Eldar, and am working on a Daemons army.

My orks are looters, and the dark eldar have allied with Tzeentch, for apocalypse.

I like playing 40k more, but love modeling FS.
