Geist:
I was asked by a user on here what the pig star is. While I cant make the exact list I can give you an rough up for a 2500 pt roster.
Lords
Usually a mino with god mode kit, asf sword, scaly skin mutation, reroll armouse save, other trickesters, do a wound if a save is made. Points is about 222 or so.
Lord level mage on the cheap.
Heros
BSB with whatever the exact kit does not matter.
3 or 4 lvl 1 or 2 mages hanging out near the herd stone.
Core
Gor heard of some sort, banner of plus one st some times, it all varries.
Special
This is the dark heart of the list.
18 pigs in horde formation 990 points of beat your face.
Rest of the army does not really matter at this point. It can be chariots harpies, just none of the rare monsters as they suck fairly hard core.
The tatic with this list is run the giant brick of pigs at whatever the target is and murder it. General and BSB need to be near in case it has to take a leadership test of any sort. I have seen this thing beat damn near anything. The one time I played against it I got lucky and was able to flank and rear charge it with good units. I got beat up hard but manged to make it run off. I consider my win against it to be luck and that I am a better than average player. Make no mistake I could have easily been trapped by it if the player was better. Jockeying for position was a big deal.
Ceann Fine:
Cheers Geist, mino lord is closer to 320 points by the way
Ceann Fine:
Its not a build I would’ve even considered but I’ll adapt it to make an etc list from it
Jake:
The Razorgors have to be max 10 though, so not much of an horde.
Ceann Fine:
Yeah the cap at 550 makes it more awkward but since you never see non-comped tournaments here its the best I can do
Geist:
ETC has nothing to do with this army build. I was asked to explain what the beastmen pig star list was. I made the rough list as best I could. Yes I got the lord points wrong, again this is not my army just one I know about and have gone against. One last time THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ETC.
khedyarl:
I have no idea why this is such a difficult list to play against - it’s just a more expensive, much, much worse Gut-star. You don’t have the Rune Maw making them all virtually immune to non-vortex magic with the added benefit of having a secondary banner, and a musician for swift reform if they are somehow detained, less strength if they are charged, fewer characters in the front rank, much less leadership, the list just goes on. The only thing that they have going for them is the additional attack, which is lost in the ranks after the first, and easily made up by the addition of the Ogre characters.
given that you’re playing Beastmen, just redirect that gigantic unit around. They aren’t going to be able to swift reform, so just give it chaff while you whittle it down - because, since it’s beastmen, the rest of the army is going to be pretty laughably bad given that you just removed 1300 + points of it for a single easily manipulated unit.
Just don’t see it.
Baggronor:
Pit/Purple Sun sorts them out. Ethereals too. Not worth the points really.
My flatmate runs 18 trolls occasionally, similar deal.
Ceann Fine:
I’ll still give it a go, I like trying different builds with my beasts and this tactic gives no bad matches that were not in existence beforehand
RiTides:
I used to run 18 trolls frequently… it certainly gets the opponent’s attention
but has a lot of counters. Initiative based magic, anything flaming, taking out the character giving them leadership and then making them narrowly lose combat and run… it was a fun idea but definitely got frustrating.
Smaller units of trolls I think were a bit more fun, but suffered from the same weaknesses, obviously.
