[Archive] The Fall of Gondolin

Dînadan:

JRR Tolkien?Ts dons it again - managed to get another novel published posthumously:

Wouldn?Tt surprise me if we?Tre still seeing new Tolkien books come The Hobbit?Ts bicentennial. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

At last!

The Fall of Gondolin is a masterpiece. One of Tolkien’s earliest writings from the 1920s, and it shows in places like the beginning, an elf named Rog, a fat elf and mechanical dragon APCs. Yet it is so well written and vivid a battle saga that J.R.R. Tolkien never prioritized a re-write, but instead fleshed out other writings.

This is a must-read for any fan of fantasy out there.

Dînadan:

Will be interesting to contrast it with the version in the HoMe series.

Vaguely recall doing some sketches based on that version of several of the Gondolin Houses many years ago; posted them on a LotR:SGB forum I was a member of at the time. No idea what happened to the original sketches or if the forum is still out there with them up. In fact iirc the forum was actually called ?~The Hammer of Rog?T after the elf you mention. Hmm, wonder if Google will yield anything…

Dînadan:

Looks like the site has been wiped from the net*; closest I can find is this thread on TLA with a link to it:

*unless it just doesn?Tt want to work for me :s

Edit: just checked my DA gallery and fortunately I uploaded them there - Houses of Gondolin by Dinadan-Ermorfea on DeviantArt and Chocolatecruncher16's request by Dinadan-Ermorfea on DeviantArt

Rather nice, thanks for sharing! Make sure you backup all your artwork and all pictures you care to save on at least one, but preferably multiple Google Drive folders as well (meaning multiple E-mail accounts).
