Clam,
I love the idea of a League here as well. One question…would we have any “themed” or would it be a free for all?
either way I’m voting for that!
Cheers,
Blue

Not just for me to decide, really - but I would like to see two, maybe three themed ones - but with very open themes. But lets have that discussion if people vote in fav of a League.
Zanko:
I’m for the idea of a League!
Not sure if I’m able to paint enough stuff but I will give it a try!

Borador:
As stated before; 1 vote should be added to the BSCL due to me misclicking
Seems like the traditional format is winning anyway though!
Keep the votes coming guys!
clam:
This is not so much about what/who is winning, really. The poll was meant to find out if one format was preferred to another. Seems like there is no significant opinion, so the poll doesn’t really seems to help me/us. And I will not let the poll dictate how it’s runned next year - especially not if only a single vote or two differentiates the two. 7 people for a league does mean that 7 will make a team and enter. Nor are we sure that 8 will commit entering in a classic challenge.
But still time for making your opinion known. And see if there is a significant opinion in our community. PMed all that previously have entered BS yesterday, and will give them a fair opportunity to make a vote.
If it’s stays this close, I’ll probably see if there is enough support (at least 8 members should commit to it) to try running a league in 2012, for a few reasons:
1) because it gives people the fredom of painting what they want, when the want. Only restriction will be having 3 miniatures ready when we start.
2) people can start planning this from the start - and you can choose just doing the starter team or choose having new teams ready each month - all up to you!
3) there will be a competition aspect for those that needs that for getting stuff painted - but don’t forget this is “just for fun”
4) it eliminates the monthly theme hunt
5) it’s something else/new
And then don’t forget - BS is about getting the lead pile painted - not about trophies
Blue in VT:
Sounds good to me Clam…thanks for putting so much thought into this.

I’ve put a lot of thoughts into it - and also think it (league) can be designed so it keeps up with current painting challenge aspect, without turning into a tough compatition. But having a small competition element might help keeping some people focused.
It is important (for me) though, that we keep focusing on getting stuff painted rather than beating each other. So the point system shall benefit the regular painters rather than a single Golden Demon quality showpiece. But also like to introduce an aspect where we are pushing people “to perform” and try do their best.
Will post my “draft” for a league later one - so people can get a chance knowing what they might be signing up for.
Hazkar:
I’ve voted for the “traditional” BS,cause to be honest:I don’t really understand the league system
but if BS will be in that league mode next year,I’ll be in and give it a try
For me BS is not a competition or something like that, its something that keeps me focused on painting minis(cause I’m a pretty lazy painter
)
So you see I’m pretty open minded to the things, that will come
warh:
I do like the classic BS. It have helped me to finish old projects and come up with new ones,
but I’m sure that the League challenge could do that to.
Blue in VT:
There is a bit of a learning curve with the league system but I think that it makes it quite exciting as well.
Since I see that there is some confusion let me try to lay it out for you.
On the first day of the league painters A, B, C, and D submit teams of three figures for the first round to clam. He randomly picks the matches for this round…and they are A Vs. C and B vs D. A poll is set up for each match and everyone on the board gets to vote for the team that they feel is the best painted for each match up. Whoever gets the most points wins that match and earns a certain amount of points. The next round each painter turns in a new team of figures body else.and they go up against a different team from someone else. A running tally of points is kept…and typically bonus points are given for each new team entered…and for certain rounds which have a particular theme. Now if you can’t finish a new team for a round…then your last team can compete again…you miss out on any bonus points for new teams but are still in the running.
At the end of the whole competition whoever has the most points overall is declared the winner.
I hope that helps some…if not please ask questions and I would be happy to help. It took me awhile to get my head around the contest like this over on LPL…but once you see it up and running it all makes sense.
Cheers,
Blue

Thanks Blue. Nice and clear, but yes feel free asking any questions
I’m working on a set of - in my opinion - rather simple rules - that rewards the hard workers - and will force the most talented painters to keep pace. Think I’ll have a draft ready within a couple of days and will then post them. We can then have a discuss based on that.
If we can agree on that set of rules (minor adjustments can be made) we can then see how many people we can muster - and hopefully have the league running at 1st March 2012

I really don’t like the idea of a league myself. It sounds like way too much commitment. I liked BS simply because I could dip in and out as the theme and time allowed, where the idea of letting peeps down on the team feels like more responsibility than I need in a “for fun” activity. I like the way BS has progressed in the last few months - there is a steady contribution from quite a few people for each heat of the event, so as far as I’m concerned, its fitting what it started out to be.
