Hi everyone, first post from a long-time Chaos Dwarf fan! My very first exposure to Games Workshop (aside from the Heroquest board game) was picking up White Dwarf 170 from a newsagent which featured the incredible Battle of Skull River battle report (CDs v Wood Elves). The image of bull centaurs hacking down a treeman with their axes in particular captivated me, and I’ve been a fan of the evil stunties ever since. Sadly I haven’t ever had the opportunity to collect an army of them - until now!
My gaming crew has decided to do an escalation league this year, adding 600 points to the army at the end of every quarter. My opposition will be a state militia/Reiksguard force from Altdorf, a horde of Slaaneshi monsters and mutants, a dark elf slaver/raiding party, and a knightly order who worship Myrmidia.
I’ve decided to go for something different with my army - they’re not Hashut worshippers, but rather a clan of “regular” dwarves from the World’s Edge Mountains, who have been driven from their ancestral home, and being lured into the chaos wastes and slowly corrupted by Tzeentch. They’ll start relatively pure, and as league escalates I’ll be adding more monstrous and chaotic elements.
The miniatures I’m using are from a variety of ranges - Scibor, West Wind, Gamezone and GW. As you’ll see, my basing scheme is themed around northern Kislev, Troll Country and the Chaos Wastes, so there will be lots of snow and warpstone. The colour scheme will be something that’s probably a little out of the ordinary here, with lots of purples, oranges and unearthly greens.
I have a blog here where I’ll be updating with fiction, painting and commentary, but I’ll also try to keep this thread updated with painting as the year progresses.
(Sadly I’ve moved house recently and misplaced the charger for my decent camera, so you’ll have to tolerate cameraphone pictures until I find it. I’ll take some better quality pics when I can).
Got my great taurus done - sadly it’s far too wet and rainy here to hit it with Dullcote (thus it’s a little glossy), and too gloomy to take decent photos, so sorry in advance for the quality.
And a shot of the entire project as it stands thus far - I need to finish off that unit of infernal guard!
And thanks Soulassassin - the background of the army is that the prophet receives visions from what he believes to be Dazh (Kislevite god of fire and the hearth, appealing to his dwarven tendancies) but is actually Tzeentch. So I’m trying to go for a Tzeentchean flavour.
Here are some better shots of the finished great taurus:
