[Archive] The Penguin's Desert Dwarfs

The_Penguin:

Good day, ladies and gentlemen! :hat off

It’s been a while since I posted here, but this time it is something special!

Golden Sands Desert is a large and empty place. For miles and miles around there is only sand and heat. However, even this gods-forgotten place is inhabitable. Desert orcs, dwarfs and humans live here. So today we start our journey to this forbidding land and we shall start with local dwarfs.

Little is known about this kin, however what is well known is that they are able traders, slavers and warriors. Local humans have relatively good relations with them, since desert dwarfs do not see them  as potential target of slave raids. Orcs and goblins, on the other hand are terrified of them. Greenskins in their hundreds are used to build marvelous architectural wonders that desert dwarfs are known for. Perhaps we’ll see some soon…

Desert Dwarfs Blacksouls

It is not entirely clear why these warriors call themselves “Blacksouls”. Some say that they are actually prisoners, forced to fight for their ruler, but in reality they just enjoy that nickname, since it confuses and frightens their enemies and thus gives them an advantage.

Desert Dwarfs Decimators

These professional missile troops are a rare sight on the battlefield, since they are armed with extremely powerful (and expensive) blunderbusses. Each one is a work of art and is extremely valuable.

More coming soon! Any comments, please? :cheers

Admiral:

Lovely start of a new army, maestro! May they bring you victories on the battlefield and glory to boast of. Welcome back! :cheers

Solid colour scheme, looks neat. Have you considered adding a spot of purple or green or teal somewhere? Gut instinct tells me a tiny bit would go together with your colour scheme. Also, nice fluff as ever.

Besides, Desert Dwarfs is extra relevant for a new T9A brainstorming.

Looking forward to Greenskins and architectural wonders alike! Your pictures of scratchbuilt Chaos Dwarf houses went down, couldn’t find them. Would you kindly mind re-uploading them, or taking new shots?

Will we see more vignette stuff from you as well in the future? I’ve missed new updates sorely. :hat off

Besides, here are The Penguin’s old CD stuff.

Admiral
Thank you very much! :hat off These warrior do not deserve to wear the royal colour of purple! Other warriors do, however. ;)

Admiral
What?! This will never do!
I do not like them any longer to be honest, have a new concept upcoming. But here they are, anyway:

And vignettes:

Ghrask Dragh:

Love the look of those desert dawi :cheers and that terrain is incredible!!

tjub:

Looks good! What system are you going for? The terrain looks very interesting so far, big plans!?

I play KoW. I find this system far superior to WFB in its any edition. Not to mention that fluff-wise it is not rigid, so allows interpretations like the one I presented. :D

Yes, but I have a new concept for terrain. I shall be using Hirst Arts, most likely. ;)

Enjoysrandom:

Oh wow! Firstly I have to say what a great army. I really like the skin colour hue and eyes. They look really well defined, the banners are also a nice touch! But that terrain and theme of your furniture and the colours! its really really good, not to mention that wall painting next to the Dawi’Zharr, its masterclass workmanship inked with the black fires of Hashut’s darkness across the bleached hide of a thousand slaves! Cant wait to see the buildings painted!

Zanko:

Very nice to have you back. :cheers

Your desert dwarves are very successful, love the paint scheme a lot. Your buildings are first class again. :hat off

Thank you very much! I am afraid these buildings will not be built (I am not even sure they haven't been destroyed with lots of other unfinished projects). I have a new concept for their terrain, so hopefully you'll see it sometime soon! :hat off

Uther the unhinged:

Lovely army. I love the weatherbeaten skin look. Crisp paintjob, really nice. I weep for the loss of the buildings but wait excitedly for their replacements. As fot the room, words fail me. I love it

Admiral:

You tossed the buildings. :o

I can promise you that there would have been people on CDO willing and eager to pay to have them shipped overseas instead. Your projects always hold such a high standard, so please, first check if other collectors would like to take them over by paying for postage before dumping something that worked-on in trash, if possible. Other collectors can usually only dream of such quality terrain. Just a tip.

Anyhow, added your pictures of building and furniture pictures as backup copies to image salvage thread and Google Drive folders. They are true gems in the treasure hoard of CDO!

Admiral
Well, now I feel bad about myself! :( I always thought that they were actually of rather poor quality and shape!

How about that: I build something better and grander than that, or I rebuilt these and accept that I was mistaken? :D

So that I do not get any criticism any longer here's something else of the olden days:

:hat off

Admiral:

Haha, strike out for new horizons boldly! Best of luck, and no conscience burdens. It’s just a tip for future similar crossroads of trashing WIP projects. Don’t feel bad.

Looking forward to see your new terrain! :cheers

Abecedar:

Who gave that Greenskin a Gun?

Deserves a whippin’ he does.

I do like what you’ve done. keep it up.

The_Penguin:

Thank you very much, guys! :cheers

I sure hope I shall not disappoint you! :hat off

The_Penguin:

Another part is here, fellow dawi! :hat off

Slave Desert Orcs

Golden Sands Desert orcs are a brutal lot. They will attack any trading caravan or adventurer that they meet. These animals are afraid of only two things. Ophidian magic and dwarven shackles. Magic would disintegrate in a second, so it is not that bad after all. Being enslaved by desert dwarfs means servitude for life: never-ending work on ziggurats and monuments. Those are allowed to fight for their masters usually gain freedom: either they are released if they saved a life of a dwarf, or they manage to escape, or they die like proper servants should. With their master.

Any comments, please? ) :cheers

Admiral:

Nice background, and great colour scheme! It’s usually hard to execute a blander greyish Orc skintone, but you’ve done it well with complementing colours! Especially the clear green scales and other details help make them pop. Fearsome horde of snorting beasts. :hat off

Abecedar:

Very nice horde of unwashed brutes

tjub:

Good concept and nice work there!

Admiral
Thanks a lot! :hat off I have always pictured desert orcs, having a bleaker colour scheme. A shame KoW Abyssal Dwarfs do not have goblins as a unit. Desert Goblins is another project that I would love to work on. :)

Abecedar
Indeed they are. Filthy animals! :hat Thanks a lot! :hat off
