[Archive] The Spoils Of War

Tarrakk Blackhand:

My name is Trevor Ursulescu. My wife and I own a hobby store called Monster Hobbies in High River, Alberta, Canada.

In November, I am going to run Scenarios based off the Warhammer: Skirmish scenarios I found online and in some older White Dwarf magazines a customer of mine loaned me. I tried to get as many as I could before GW redesigned their web site and dropped them all (Over 300 Scenarios and I only managed to print off 12 or so!) So now I have to run with what I have. Luckily, I was able to print off the Skirmish rules and Scenario Generator before they were pulled!

I also have an idea for these battles called “The Spoils of War”.

Each army (Or Player) has a small “Treasure Box” that they bring to the store on the night of the battle. Inside the box are samples of all the spare bits that the player doesn’t use in their army, such as the extra shields, hand weapons, armour, and special interest items (Like Tomb Kings Tombstones and Musical Instruments). These pieces should be cleaned up and painted, just like you would find in a real treasure box.

Once the battle has ended and the Victory Points tallied or Objective won, then the winning army gets to raid a percentage of the losers “Spoils of War”. (For example - 10 shields or 5 Musical Instruments) Then the winner can use the loser’s pieces in a future unit for future battles. (From a sales point of view, I’m hoping that this will help customers to buy more boxes of infantry just so that they can use the parts.)

Personally, I’m hoping to get enough little pieces, like Chaos Shields, Wood Elf Musical Instruments, etc. to build up some unique pieces! Also, the less I actually have to pay for the parts, the better. If I can “Raid” them from someone else, I should have enough Kool looking parts from all over the Warhammer World to build anything my imagination can muster. Imagine Chaos Dwarfs with Lizardmen shields and Tomb King swords, for example. Should be Kool indeed!

I was thinking, however, that Banners should NOT be part of the Spoils and should stand alone as a separate objective. That way I can run “Capture The Flag” scenarios on special nights.

This will start in November so that I’ll have enough time to prepare the parts and build the terrain. Should be fun!

Anyway, I’ll talk to you soon!
