[Archive] [theBattleforge] Old school Chaos Dwarfs - 2nd wave release

warh:

I know you are against me:P but I don’t really like them,

if you ask me there hasty skulpted and lots of errors just look at the chainmailx.x

clam:

I’m not against you  - I just dont agree  Think its nice to see real hand crafted miniatures - in a genuine old school style - but yes I am that old.

Had a scale discussion with TBF regarding these - as the ACW dwarfs he does is rather big - and he showed this scale shot:

They seems perfect for Warhammer

Thommy H:

I wish everyone would stop worrying about scale. If they’re roughly 25 - 32mm scale, they’ll be fine. I’m 6’ and my fiancée is 5’4" but if we were gaming figures, some of you guys wouldn’t want to use us in the same army! It’s crazy. A big of variation is normal: get over it.

I love these, I think they are brill. I didn't notice any chainmail though.

Hashut’s little helper:

Miniatures invariably show off their worst ‘face’ when they are internet photographs of greens or unpainted castings and this is no exception.

If this is the worst they are going to appear then the Battleforge models are going to be a pleasure to view and paint.

I am looking forward to seeing painted Battleforge Chaos dwarf miniatures in the photographs and I look forward to seeing the expansive range of his Chaos Dwarfs unfold over the coming months because they are full of character.

I can see aspects of 3rd edition CD’s, aspects of the big hat CD’s and aspects of the Hellcannon crew CD’s.

I like it all, and I will be collecting everything he brings out, including his mooted ‘HOBGOBLINS’.

Abecedar:

I do like the spears idea but not sure where I would fit them in. Slavers might use them to prod unruly critters. Just don’t like the masks for some reason. Maybe its 'cause I think the first two look to be high up on their heads, sort of.

Kered:

I rather like these a nice mix of different styles . Mt only qualm is the spear shafts are a bit to rugged but then again maybe the trees in in the dark land need to be.

Looking forward to seeing these painted up.

Hashut’s little helper:

My sentiments exactly Kered, lets see what they look like painted up, everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING changes when you get to see some decent photos of well painted miniatures. I’m confident these will make a significant leap in their presentation.

I’m looking forward to being able to buy these little beauties and I hear they will be available for sale soon so I can try my own hand on them with my brushes, and then I will post pictures of my painted battleforge chaos dwarves here for summary execution

I look forward to seeing other members efforts with the brushes on these lovely models on here as well.

Ahhhh... I think I am seeing the issue here.
This is a mutant Chaos Dwarf, not a regular Chaos Dwarf.
Looking at the model carefully it appears the mutant has a kind of infestation coming out through the models leather coat in a few places.
There is a mutation going on along all of it's right arm and it carries on up through the hilt and into the blade of the models hand weapon. By the look of it, in the hands of a decent painter, it will paint up very well, in some kind of pestilential, plague infested colour scheme.
The chainmail is a little more pronounced than normal, most likely to reinforce the unkempt nature of the item, that is, rust.
It's unlikely 'mutant' Chaos Dwarfs are likely to make the effort to polish their armour, as a 'regular' Chaos dwarf might do, especially when they have buboes sprouting across their body, or perhaps an extra appendage growing forth from it's physionomy.
There is no chainmail on the regular rank and file spearmen. They seem to be in a kind of plate armour. Good option.

I'm not seeing anything rushed or error ridden in the sculpt at all, I think you are maybe thinking this is meant to be a more 'polished' looking regular rank and file Chaos Dwarf like the models holding spears.
It's not.
It's mutating, therefore it's meant to look  more dishevelled and Chaos afflicted. Thats why it's called a mutant Chaos Dwarf :hat off  I'm sure that will come to the fore clearly when we get to see some painted examples pictured here, hopefully soon.
;-)

Aman:

Personally, I like that anyone is making new cd’s in an official capacity (even Forgeworld). If they also come out with an official Rick Priestly update of the Rogue Trader rules, and it involves these units, then I’d buy the update and seriously consider buying some of the new figs.

If they are just a divergent sculpting path, with no rules, then my interest would be tempered. I don’t really want to substitute CD’s with spears for CD’s with HW and Shield, or something.

But we really need an official update for CD’s into 8th edition, don’t we? So if this is part of that direction, I’m all for it!

clam:

And finally - some painted ones - to really show off the quality of these sculpts:

They should become available early October - accompanied by a command group.

I really, really like these and look forward painting a few of these myself.

Aman:

I think they’ll make a nice varient - sort of a mutated or “rural” chaos dwarf, one that doesn’t live in the temple of Hashut ziggarat, etc. I like the rough looking spears. I will probably be too sorely tempted to get them IF THEY HAVE RULES for chaos dwarfs with spears.

HELLO RICK PRIESTLY?

Hashut’s little helper:

Excellent, they look very interesting indeed.

Can’t wait to see what the commands look like, and the hand weapon and shield options and the two handed weapon rank and file as well.

nitroglysarine:

spear + clippers + axehead = 2/hW

easy conversion.

Aman:

stupid question - are these related to Forgeworld and official GW stuff? Or is it a purely independent sculptor?

I got confused with the “Forge” parts of the names…

Aman:

edit: I take it back - I’ll buy a unit of 25 even if they have spears as long as they have a cool looking command group. I’ll use them as HW and Sh, who cares about the spear rules/appearance?

Couldn’t find anything about them at the Battleforge site, which is strange since they’re coming out in a few weeks…

You can only find news in the forums - and you need to be registered member to get access. That’s the reason why I posted it on here in the first place

And don’t expect to find them on the site shop - look out for them at his eBay-store, instead. It’s an old and hostile site - cause you can’t find the new ACW or Renaissance Dwarf Spearmen there as well.

Baggronor:

lol its so true.

The style is less neat than many sculptors around, yeah, but they do look good.

He's not GW-related.

can't find his store, did searches for "The Warforge" and "Warforge miniature figures".

So his site isn't up to date, the info is 8 months old, and can't find the store...maybe this is a bit too difficult...
