Basically have come to the conclusion of theming my armies around books - (as an avid reader, it made more sense) and although not exclusively, am trying to link many of my armies to children’s books as I am a Primary school teacher - plus putting an evil twist on a kids classic is great fun.
My Chaos Dwarfs are themed from the books by L. Frank Baum (The Wizard of Oz)
The problem is, I have now agreed to do a campaign with some mates where to motivate our painting we have to paint 500 points of a new army in 3 months. As I have loads of night goblins from Battle for Skull Pass, I am doing a Night Goblin Army. But what theme do I use???
Based on a book, doesn’t have to be a kids book but would be good.
Thommy H:
Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with lots of candy-themed accoutrements. Have an inflated, blue-faced Violet bring rolled as a Mangler Squig, a warboss dressed as Wonka, a glass elevator for a Doom Diver…

Ooooh I like that,
I was thinking Oompa Lommpas but aside from the colour scheme, couldn't see it working - the other stuff you said ties in really well.
I am thinking though that Wonka may work better as the giant though - bigger so much more opportunity to sculpt
Thommy H:
No, the Giant has to be the stretched-out Mike Teevee!
That, or make it a whole Roald Dahl theme and have the BFG!
You could have a Giant Peach Colossal Squig, a Shaman making Marvellous Medicine in a cauldron, a Trunchball hero swinging a snotling around like a throwing hammer…

Besides the fact that entering a “must paint x points in x time” campaign with a goblin force is masochistic - I like the theme bit.
The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stuff will be good. Challenge will be to keep the army dark and warhammery - and not silly. Yet keeping with the theme.
Finding any other book that fit with main troops goblins, is gonna be hard.
The mummis (those white trolls) have a rather dark setting. The original graphic novels are some of the scariest children stories I’ve read. And the univers is filled with good characters and machines. Yet the basic mummi troll look aint too goblinny - lacking noses.
Najaa:
It could be cool to make the card army from Alice in Wonder Land. With banner of heart everywhere and à big ugly goblin Queen.
A bit of green stuff on thé squig to make them look like the cat. Etc…
And you ça keep it “darky” with this thème.
Baggronor:
Could you base it on a film? Coz y’know, an army based on Labyrinth would make the best Goblin army ever. And I do mean ever. You could have those mortars that fire Goblins in spiky shells as Doom Divers, the Goblin Knights as Wolf Riders, that Gatekeeper robot thing as a Giant, the Cleaner as a Mangler Squig, David Bowie as a Great Shaman. Its perfect.
You can probably tell I’ve thought about this before.

Thanx for all the help guys,
I am going to go do some drawings and then see what I like.
