Quitting WFB isn't about throwing your toys out of the pram in anger or making a rash decision, its about taking the only action you feel able to, having been backed into a corner and the only way to make your voice heard, by denying Games Workshop your cash and voting with your feet. That's my reasoning behind it.
Doombeard
Or you could 'vote with your feet' by buying from eBay and/or buy non-GW minis to convert - GW aren't the only manufacturer out there remember. That way GW don't get your money and you get to keep enjoying a game and hobby you have for years. There will only be a tiny number of people playing Fantasy if loads of people rage quit and sell up - if people act rationally and keep on playing the flame will be kept alive. Now it's an almost zero percent chance that GW will ever revive fantasy, but it'll definitely be zero if everyone ups and sells.
Again, just quitting isn't going to faze GW. They're not going to think 'Oh no! We lost another customer.', they're just going to shrug and say 'They weren't giving us money anyway so who cares?' GW are more likely to to change strategy if you keep playing and start buying from Mantic, Reaper, etc (as they'll see their own losses, then look at the upswing in the competition and think 'Hey, how come those guys peddling the sort of stuff we junked are prospering while we fail?') than they are for a mass quitting of wargamers from the hobby. Both ways deny GW money, but only the former way shows to them they could have had your money if they'd done something differently.

Not trying to goad anyone, But the vast majority of Warhammer fantasy players don’t debate about supporting or not supporting on forums, They tend to be a bit younger and are still happy with GW, Player losing is a normal thing and whether you like it or not, WE are not GW’s target Demographic and selling off your armies won’t change anything. To tell you the truth even if i quit i couldn’t part with my army. It’s part of me
I would prefer a big system but i understand why GW have done this. Warhammer Fantasy battles has become stagnant, Many people have already left it either they have ragequitted at gw or left because it simply isn’t exiting enough for them. The latter they can bring back by changing things and there is a lot of people who left fantasy because it became stale to them.
This way they can bring back the players who became simply bored with 8th edition and a younger audience who want epic chiseled demigods and super evil badasses.
Plus im not putting any words in anyone’s mouths but edition ragequitting is simply a way of being in warhammer, I remember on warseer just before 8th there was a poll and 65% of people said they were going to quit 20% not sure and only 15% said they were gonna continue. Then they saw the game then they grumbled and carried on complaining about prices
Pre edition jitters
I reckon it’s gonna be a fun game.
I mean no one is forcing you to collect sigmarites, Im sure everyone hates some fantasy armies, Just add Sigmarites to your little black book of hate.
Doombeard:
Well I’ve stuck a bunch of stuff on ebay this evening, at prices I’d be happy with parting with it for, and if it doesn’t sell I’ll also be happy to keep it.

That's usually the way it goes. I'm certain we'll see good old Geist and Doombeard around in a year as well. :cheers
Rettile:
Really i don’t get where the problem is. If GW drops WHF players can make a fanmade 9th: it would take 2-3 years probably, but i’m quite sure that it would better and more balanced than any of the GW releases
Doombeard:
Its basically what happened when Epic, Necromunda, Bloodbowl and Mordheim and Warhammer Quest and all the other games GW were killed off in the last decade. Sure there will be some indy tournaments and rules development and things will carry on in one sense or another, but thats not enough to interest me really. I don’t continue to play any of those games and I sold all my armies/gangs/teams when they went down the pan as well.
Necromunda Delaque - Sold, wasted loads of time and money on
Man O War Brettonians, High Elves - Sold, wasted loads of time and money on
Bloodbowl, Wood Elves, Halflings, Undead - Sold, wasted loads of time and money on
Epic, Space Marines and Imperial Guard Allied - Sold, wasted loads of time and money on
Undead Army, 4th Ed Warhammer - Sold after they were made an illegal Army and VC were introduced -wasted loads of time and money on
So can you see a pattern emerging here my friend?

Ï guess it depends on the type of hobbyist you are. Sure I've sold stuff as well, but only the projects I wouldn't get around to.
I've played a lot of bloodbowl, the league I helped start up is still running - but I haven't played for years. I would never sell or give up my converted nurgle og CD teams. Spend time and money on those - and they are dear to me.
Never gotten around to playing Mordheim really, would never sell the warband I put together from bits. They are still dear to me, good looking miniatures.
I spend a lot of money getting a completely untouched HeroQuest (that got expansions as well, but no further support). I've played a couple of times with the kids, properly won't play it much. But I'm still gonna paint those beautiful miniatures one day.
That goes for all my finished projects - I love looking at them. Good memories. I've startede toying around with Deadzone stuff as well. Only played two games, won't get the game delivered before january.
Wasting time and money? Nah man. Not me. It's my hobby, it's leisure time for me, relaxing. An audiobook in the background, drinking a beer, painting, converting, taking pictures, looking at the finished results going "wow. I made those plastic pieces look cool!".
Zuh-Khinie:
I agree wholheartedly with Bloodbeard…
GW stopping support for games I love, has never stopped me from playing them nor made me stop loving the miniatures I poured hours of hobby-time and money in.
Dînadan:
Agreed with Bloodbeard - it’s only wasted time and money if you chuck it all away. Unless the only reason you ever played was to be ultra competative and win as many tourneys as you could, then the point was is to enjoy yourself - enjoy painting and converting, enjoy debating fluff titbits, enjoy playing the game and so on. By selling your stuff you’re depriving yourself of all that.
There’s also the fact that you could use your stuff for KoW or AoA. Or use a Bret or Empire army in one of the many historical games out there if you have one of those armies.
Zanthrax:
I am one of those tragics who has bought and sold armies based on a whole range of reasons.
Chaos dwarfs have been the only army I have stuck with other the years (I continue to buy more hobgoblins when ever I see a deal going so pm me if you have some you want to get rid of) and now due to range of factors, I see myself as just as much of a collector as a gamer/ painter of big hats.
Age of sigmarines will not change this and I will wait to see what the new big red book will mean for us. Will we be vanilla dwarfs, height challenged chaos warriors or will we get a 2 page ravening horde type list - I have no idea but thanks to everyone on CDO I am sure we have not heard of or seen the last of Hashut’s finest.
Just think how good will it be to smash those sigmarines with a charging iron daemon!
tenebre:
I think the selling your army is too much. I wont be playing AoS as currently written because i think its a joke at best and a waste of my time.
but your army is valid entirely. play with 8th or another rule set. GW isnt getting money for your army you already have so it only hurts you in the end.
Doombeard:
In the end I decided to keep my stuff and have even broken out the brushes this week as I’ve been on holiday, and feeling pretty good about it. So in a funny kind of way AoS got things moving again and I’m at peace with it all now. I haven’t played a game of fantasy since 4th Ed anyway, although I was planning to in future when I have some spare time.
I saw this on my fbook recently Geist, they need Beta testers
Hobgoblin
GodHead:
In the end this is big kids pushing toy soldiers.
gIL^
Not anymore.
Now it's for babies. Babies throwing their toys across the table at each other.
RIP Warhammer. I hope GW goes out of business. Of course it won't happen because they ruined fantasy, but as soon as they go full Warmahordes and fold 40k under the same rules (if you can even call the pathetic scrap of e-paper that they have released 'rules'), it'll be the end.
Does anyone want to buy my Destroyer (shown in avatar)?
MadHatter:
So in the end it was not Chaos but Sigmar who killed warhammer… just as planned…
Saw the “warscrolls”, saw a battlereport.
Our group will stay with 8th.

Age of Eighth! Got tabled by good old WoCs today. 540 to 2650 in five rounds
Can't do that math in AoS brother!

Sorry that feels suspect to me, if its really free just put a hyper link to a pdf free down load. I trust very lil where I have to give info for a free anything. Thanks for thinking about me.
AGPO:
I’ve just painted up my first Stormcast Eternal and I’m really happy with the model. Some thoughts on the marine comparisons:
1. Marines are knightly orders in space, whilst power armour is based on historical plate armour. 40K has always been a fantasy style setting, just with guns and in spaaaaace. It’s marines who are imitating medieval/fantasy settings, not the other way round.
2. Divinely created/reforged super warriors have ALWAYS been part of Warhammer. See Daemon Princes, Chaos Warriors, Vampires, Grail Knights and pretty much any lizardman or daemon. The fact that marines are based on the same concept doesn’t mean GW are shoe horning some alien concept into Fantasy.
3. The reason Marines are in every starter set and are so enduringly popular is that they look cool, are easy to play and easy to paint, so they’re the ideal army for beginners. WFB has never really had a “good guy” equivalent of this. Think of the options for a kid (or any new hobbyist) who wants to play the heroes - Bretonians (Heraldry), High Elves (robes, jewells etc) or Empire (poofy sleeves, feathers, split colour schemes). Stormcasts can be painted to a reasonable standard with a base and a wash. They’re ideal minis for beginners.
I like Stormcasts. At the very least I’ll be building and painting the ones in the starter set as an intro army for friends to use. The minis themselves have huge conversion potential too.

A great breakdown, AGPO. :)
Timothy Archer:
C’mon theres is still 8 editions of Warhammer for you to choose between
Kings of war , etc . …
i think we will finally see here who are the GW/WARHAMMER/CHAOS DWARF
and who is just simply : Chaos dwarf
personally i came from necromunda , that was the Big thing in my life ( i played 4th before and i did enjoy it too )
when they decided to stop the production i just realise that the fandom was much more interesting that the big compagny
it last for years with amazing homemade scenarios and gangs rules , that was crazy cool, way better than GW stuff ( which was really great for necromunda )
we all know that GW is nothing else that a big compagny who just want to sell things at any cost ( including destroying your dreams )
and they did .
so now , several choices
complain like babies on every forums you can ( which is not gonna change anything by the way )
or just deal with it and keep it cool
your imagination is the start
GW is dead long time ago and warhammer too , nothing new here
Tarrakk Blackhand:
GW destroying my dreams? For what…trying something new and exciting on a game that was becoming cost prohibitive and dormant? An “elitist game for the rich”? Funny thing is that I remember people complaining about the rule changes from 7th to 8th edition not too long ago…how no one was going to play 8th and such. Change is a staple of life, for better or worse. Just because the game changed, I’m still going to play GW stuff. At least this time the rules and Army Warscrolls are free!
