Grimbold Blackhammer:
A friend of mine asked me a simple question the other day - why don’t I ever bring a K’daii Destroyer? He knows I have a suitable model on the shelf but I never field it. I told him I don’t like Demon players who always show up with a Bloodthirster because fighting it really isn’t a lot of fun and I imagine fighting a K’daii Destroyer would be a similar experience. And I have a decent win/loss record without it. So I fielded it, I wiped my opponent off the table, and he kindly asked me to put it back on the shelf.
Are other folks winning without having to field “the crutch”? And has anyone else been asked to not show up with it?

i know i what to build one… But I don’t know yet if I would like to field it… It’s just such a cool sculpting opportunity!
Veshnakar:
I am right there with you! I like the fact that my friends and club let me use my legion of azgorh list, so I am not going to go making a list with 3 magma cannons, a hell cannon, and a destroyer and make them regret that they allowed me to use the list. Especially considering how much money I have investing in my Forgeworld Chaos Dwarfs.
So to answer your question I rarely use one. In large point games I will but otherwise I just use an iron daemon, or put my fire prophet on a bale/bull taurus to get my big beastie fix.
Baggronor:
I use it unashamedly, as an instrument of justice against all the skaven and ogre BS I have to put up with
Also, people won’t learn how to deal with it if they don’t play against it. Think of it as doing your friends a service. A really painful service.
I only ever take max 1 Magma Cannon though. That thing is wrong.
SafetyTurtle:
I haven’t played with the list yet but can already say now that I will not field a destroyer or a magma cannon…why?..because they’re more or less standard in most lists and that turns me off on it.

I’m avoiding putting it in my lists due to its reputation, at least until I have learnt how to play the army properly since I don’t want to use it as a crutch. I’ll keep it on a reserve list in case I come up against a very cheesy player but the model isn’t ready yet.

I think it’s a tad overpowered, but my main issue with it is that it doesn’t really have any weaknesses - I don’t think that’s a negative in terms of game balance (anything is balanced if the points are right), I just don’t get what the point of it as a unit is. It’s pretty much just a giant, awesome, fast, daemon. Why do Chaos Dwarfs get that? How does that fit with anything we know about them as a race? Sure, it’s a bound daemon, and maybe it has some sort of mechanical element to it but mostly it’s pretty much just the best possible combination of stats and abilities in Warhammer, and I don’t get why.
It should be slow, or it should have something that represents its bound nature, or it should be explicitly a giant machine of some kind. It makes no sense to me as part of the army. Perhaps if the Tamurkhan story had some reference to it - if we had more than half a page of fluff to go on (not counting Monstrous Arcana, which expands on the K’daai slightly) it might feel a bit more like something to use for a reason besides “you’d be crazy not to”. There should be something in its rules that gives it some sort of thematic weakness to link it to Chaos Dwarfs. Anyone can have a generic fire daemon.

Yup. It has a lot of overlap with the Taurus too, which isn't a good thing imo. It's greatest strength and the thing that makes the least sense is the M9. That is huge.
Vogon:
Well I don’t have a Destroyer yet but I’d have no problem using one or facing one in a game. There are so many other big monsters and things of that nature out there in the new edition (Stonehorn, Imperial Griffon, arachnarok, Terrorgheist, mortis engine, Warshpynx, the list goes on) that the Destroyer actually seems pretty tame in comparison.
I’m just waiting to see what the Warhammer Forge model looks like before going for it, by which time I’ll have a fairly balanced list anyway.
Cheers
Vogon
MLP:
I suspect we may see more Destroyers used once the official model is released, no matter how OTT it may be considered people will want to use a cool model they payed £50-100 for (or however much it will cost).
Grimbold Blackhammer:
It actually has two weaknesses - poison and the Lore of Shadow. Drop its Toughness and it will self destruct pretty quick. I’m not trying to say it is anything other than a rank-and-file killing beast but it isn’t bulletproof either.
So all that being said, are people winning games without it?

I'm in the same case , I can't see the point of playing them actually .
Almost every list , in the our section dedicated to it , includes a kday et magma , ok it's OP , but just nothing new :/

I remember playing my brother years and years ago when he put his blood thirster on the table against my orcs. Luckily I put my black orc boss with the frost blade (instant kill with a wound) and a potion of strength. The blood thirster got 1 round of combat before he was charged by my general and killed outright after only suffering 1 lucky wound.
As previously stated there's always some weakness to things, (never having seen the destroyer used though.)
