Second try on a black and white hobgob:
I like him more than the first one, what do you think?

Borador:
Does indeed look better but maybe a little bit more contrast in the face would bring out the detail even more!
DAGabriel:
Didnt pass the test, teachers comment:

first one was Hobgoblin the grey, second oneis Hobgoblin the white ..
you are missing Hobgoblun the black.

this time hands look better - as they are separated
blades to - especially back one - better but thats not valid NMM - try next one with proper NMM (look at Flamons black NMM )

but never the less details such like belt , straps on arms or claws on foots are much better visible - now if you combine this with the idea that you want to, let
s say - get grown cloaths , red belt and green skin - and menage to present this in B/W in a way that all ppl will know that the belt got different Value than the cloths and that the skin is also different - you get this exercise done.
- (yes thats possible as each color got its own wave length and red is 750 when blue is 330 - so by different contrast you will get something like that )
Borador:
Wow you must have a good teacher, that’s some usable feedback!
You’re getting there mate, keep it up
DAGabriel:
OK, so i will prepare and prime the next one and read up on NMM (never did that before).
Will try to start with the blades and will post them separately to try to get them right.
Regarding the black and white value of the colors i found this:
for the blades i will try something like this:
Ravenswood:
You have a good teacher, don’t stop!
If you will try paint NMM on sneaky git’s knife is better modify the blade before. From hexagonal to rhombic, IMHO.
DAGabriel:
My first try at the blades:
Borador:
Very good for a first try, much better than my efforts at NMM! Although the blending might need to be a little softer ( don’t ask me how, I can’t do that either ). But overall they are looking really good, the placement of the shades and highlights seems to be just about right!
Ravenswood:
It’s very good for first try but you need more practice. And you need to paint reflexes.

A short WIP of the Hobgoblins:
Bassman:
Very good and nice movement tray!!!
I love their square shields, once I dreamed to make hobgoblins with those shields but gave up…
tjub:
Agree about the shields, really fits the models!
Ravenswood:
Very good hobs! Standard bearer conversion looks nice.
DAGabriel:
THX guys, now i have to start another 15 rank and file ones

THX guys, now i have to start another 15 rank and file ones :-(I hate people with so many classic hobgoblins!!! :P

DAGabriel:
With a unit filler i hope to make a gang of 40, even if i have to mix the sneaky gits with the handweapon/shield guys.
Am still looking for a group of Archers but first my wallet has to recuperate from the FW buy and from “outsorcing” the painting of my Prophet.
DAGabriel:
Next project is a tent village for the hobgoblins (thx to Kera for the idea!), here the first WIP:
DAGabriel:
Yeah, managed to get a marauder mage and another 6 Blunderbusses, so now i got a ( small) unit of 10. What did they use as command group at that time?
Borador:
For the blunderbussers? I am not to sure on that but I believe they used basically the same command models as they used for warrior units. I’ll check the wiki and will edit this if there are BB command troops
For marauder era units there are no command units from that period of time, sadly. That being said, clam has made a great marauderesque bannerbearer which is sold by 4-A-miniatures IIRC.
Hope this is helpful (:
DAGabriel:
@Borador: Thx, looking really interesting.
Got a search/collecting list on Page 1, so if somebody could help me close some gaps in my collection i would be grateful. But please do not be mad with me, i just shot a lot of money into my army Prophet, so budget is a little low atm.
