Mr Saturday:
Thanks all. My little mutant dwarf is under the brush at the mo, I should have shots soon.
Mr Saturday:
Well, here is the first of many, at long last. I mulled over his colours a fair bit. The cloth and leather are done with various flesh tones, as in flayed skins of various hues. The armour is weathered, as the army is often away from Zharr Naggrund for extended periods of time. I went with old ruin for the base, as the fire would take the attention away from the minis too much. I also think I might give the obsidian guard (the unit this guy is from) white hair & beards, like a corrupted version of dwarf longbeards.
dncswlf:
Wicked! Nice job on this guy! Love the old citadel pieces! Good choice on the base too, can’t wait to see the unit together!
Blue in VT:
o
Absolutely AWESOME painting on this guy…you really captured the face perfectly…and I like the beat up armor too.
Cheers,
Blue
Hazkar:
excelent paintjob, like how that little guy came out
Mr Saturday:
Thanks folks! I am pretty happy with how he came out. I’m hoping the unit will have a quite muted tone, bar the beards that will add to the expeditionary ‘out in the field’ look to them. I’m now wondering how the flesh tone on his trousers will apply to cloaks and hobgoblin clothing. I think I’ll give the hobgobs leather caps. The whole force is going to have a touch of the 19th century colonial uniform about it I think.
The flayed skin is giving me more ideas for background too. The priest of Hashut who leads the force on their slaving/missionary work might have to include a flaying ritual in his ceremonies. That might give the wearing of human/elf/dwarf/etc leather a kind of religious meaning for the troops.
Da Crusha:
ohh I really like it, especially the cloth. you really gave the model a lot of character.
Mr Saturday:
Ta Mr Crusha, I hope the unit works when all 30 are painted! On a side note, here’s today’s activity for my two little sons: Chaos Dwarf colouring time…

Mr Saturday:
Cough cough! Gasp! Wow, sorry, the dust in this thread was thick. My poor neglected chaos dwarves. My recent obsession with fimir has meant my little stunties have been somewhat mothballed for now. However!
I have a friendly tournament coming up, and thought it might be a good time to try out the new chaos dwarf list from Tamurkhan. To that end, I took a little break from the fimir, as I resolved to finally assemble my destroyer for this weekend. It’s an old Leviathan dwarf war golem, and I think it makes a perfect K’daai destroyer. (All the models from Leviathan can be gotten from Scotia Grendel.) I may need to emphasise the possessed nature of the construct in the paintjob though. I’ve had this fellow (and 2 more similar to him) for about twenty years, and the model did show it’s age a little during assembly. The resin is like concrete, which is great for durability, but sucks when you’re trying to sand or drill it. A mask is a must, as resin dust, it’s bad for you, kids. There was a lot of hacking, cleaning and sanding needed, and the model is still a little off here and there, but essentially it turned out well. Some green stuff for filling bubbles and gaps, and it’s ready to prime. It’s pretty huge, as you can see from my daemonsmith next to it.
Hopefully it’ll last long enough to make combat!
devlanmud:
Looking very cool so far and thanks for the link to Leviathan. Lots of interesting bits in the war machines section.
Mr Saturday:
Though this thread is quiet, it won’t remain so. A little bit of news, after much collecting, I finally finished my MM90 collection with the acquisition of the crossbow dwarf. Woot!
