So, despite me holding out for a good couple of weeks I have been lured by the darkside and have today bought a Forgefiend for converting into a destroyer.
Anyhow, what I noticed was that the bits I was not using still look useful.
The two hades cannon things (think that’s their names), the ones that look like multi-barrel cannons could indeed be used for that. Either on their own with a suitable cannon chassis built, or joined together quite easily with a large bead or other round thing between them and a wider chassis.
They look a little 40k, but on a cannon chassis with CD themed wheels they would be fine.
I will be using one of them on my destroyer.
The other thing that I thought would be useful would be the whips/tentacle things, which would look very Kraken like on a Hellbound Skullcracker…
I’ve had pretty much exactly the same thoughts while working on my kit.
I find the tentacles to be an element that pulls too much towards 40K, but the funny thing is that it’s actually already present in the Dreadfleet set. So, myeah.
I plan to toy around with the gatling guns and a chassis sometime too. Wish I had access to Hellcannon bits, but Finecast scares me big time.
I had considered saying make the Black Kraken, but realised it was a silly comment for the simple fact that the cog’ the ships produce are supposed to be bigger than any wooden ship built in the real world, lol.
I reckon to do the Kraken justice you’d need it to be at least a 1m long, with the ship part being around 35cm.
I’m going to have a go over the weekend sculpting a load of flames over anything that looks too 40k. Sculpting flames is the one thing that makes me shudder…
Smaller versions of the Kraken, crewed by a Chaos Dwarf (to do the shouting) and a couple of slaves (to do the actual work), might work as guardians of the underground tunnel linking Uzkulak with the Falls of Doom… I’ve always assumed that tunnel is massive and totally flooded, allowing ships to travel from shipyards in Zharr Naggrund all the way to the northern seas.
I’ve decided that the forgefiend isn’t big enough for how I want my destroyer. So I’ve come up with the plan of converting him into a Hellbound Iron Daemon!? It will fit a base reasonably well now.
Now I just have to figure out what ‘hellbound’ crew will look like?

Yes! And double Yes! I think that idea has just made my day.
As I happen to mention my conversion here first...

Like the regular crew, only trying harder to avoid a squishy demise. Or playing cards, those Hellbound machines practically run themselves.
