Grimstonefire:
For those who play this it seems GW/FW have decided to finish with Warhammer Ancient Battles and have updated their site to say this. Also to stop Wargames Illustrated publishing any more articles on it.
What piqued my curiosity more on this was this, the head of GW legal joining a forum to discuss/observe the matter.
I wouldn’t have thought someone like that would bother, especially since GW as a whole tends to ignore forums for the most part unless they are sending out C&D?
cornixt:
Not just finished with it, they shut down the main site devoted to it.
vulcanologist:
They just keep hammering those nails in their own coffin don’t they!
Why stop others from still enjoying it? Why damage their own hobbyists enjoyment? Why?.. Because they’re not making money out of it! very damaging strategy IMO.
wallacer:
WAB is just a product line to GW.
Whether people enjoy it is irrelevant, what matters is that it wasn’t making money.
Still, disappointing they couldn’t just have put it in specialist games like they did with Epic.
G.2:
This make me MAD!
Note: I actually typed a whole rant about GW (about 10 lines), but I deleted it and replaced it, with the 4 words shown above. I will leave it at that.

This truly saddens me. At the end of this week i get my first paycheque from my second job and i was going to buy a couple of these books because one of them had a Polish army list. Since my dad is retired and has very few hobbies (aside from the occasional fishing and busting my ass about stupid stuff) i was going to suggest we play a battle of his polish army vs. whatever i choose. Since i am Canadian born and most of my wanker soccer soccer buddies refer to me as a “colonist” i’d probably pick a british or roman army and just use my warhammer armies.
These books are not even available on amazon.ca anymore
If anyone has the book with the polish armies, please send me a PM with the title and i’ll be able to search ebay

This is the funniest line EVER - I just sprayed beer all over my monitor!!!
I can't wait for my kids to describe my hobbies as "Playing tabletop games and busting my ass about stupid stuff"!
Bitterman:
If GW want to end Warhammer Historical, I mean, that’s up to them. It’s obviously never made them any real money, and the recent 50% off sale was a big red flag saying “GET YOUR BOOKS WHILE YOU STILL CAN, WE’RE GOING TO STOP SUPPORTING THIS SOON”.
So it’s not surprise that it’s gone, pretty hard to argue with in fact. What does suck is that they’ve taken down their entire website, can’t even access the articles or resources any more (what do you mean you’ve not downloaded the errata? Tough luck, matey!) and are preventing other people writing articles about the game(s) in other magazines and online. That’s just vindictive.

Can you be more specific? Ie what time period where you looking at. For medieval it's going to be Armies of Chivalry or Vlad the Impaler most likely.
I'd mention that there's nothing stopping you using one of the "modern" historical rule sets, say Hail Ceasar or Clash of Empires (these seem to be "ancient" not medieval rules but I'm not sure it matters much) IIRC I've seen them used with more medieval armies. As these rules are much more forgiving on basing you can use Warhammer armies vs other "real" historical armies and there should be few problems.
This place seems to be good place to browse around and ask, covers all 3 games.

The recently released Armies of Antiquity 2 has a Polish list. A nice one actually. The older Armies of Chivalry also has one i think.

OMG - you should have seen my parents faces a few months ago when they stopped in and saw i was working on GW stuff again. I tried to explain to them that i am 37, have owned my home for almost 13 yrs and got raped (academically) this past year with the sheer volume of homework, so if i want a hobby, i should be ENTITLED (and i hate that word)..... No dice, they reminded me that my grass may hove some weeds, my flower beds will need flowers, and blah blah.....

Thanks for the link..... am i confusing this game system for the books that were available at Forge World? Forge World had a supplementary book with additional armies. I think it was about 22 GBP? In the description they listed off all the additional armies included in the volume. There were two of these additional books.....
Marduk:
This is really bad news. Two years ago, when they released the new rulebook, I was hoping that they would put a bit more effort to make this a viable business for them. I rushed to buy my rulebook and bought a few army/period books hoping to play historical battles.
Sadly, I did not succeed in convincing anybody else to play WAB. Instead, GW released Storm of Magic and the local league continued drifting in the opposite direction.
WAB RIP
Brotsorrow: I own a copy of Armies of Chivalry. It contains a list of The Kingdom of Poland (Mid 14th Century to Early 16th Century)
brotsorrow:
Thanks Marduk for that and to Zobo for the link to the book! It is greatly appreciated!

You've got no chance. The Hobbit part 1 is out this Christmas. That'll be at least another 10 years worth of tenuous releases.
My only hope is they release a Smaug miniature :)
Cheers
